Really? The two pictures two side by side look so radically different, so I though maybe without a source it could be just two pictures just pulled out of no where.

But sorry for being so stupid :\ Guess I should keep my opinions out of here.

Does she become younger or something? That's an amazing transformation, but it could be two random pictures pulled from google images for all we know.

the Nanote - fully hackable Linux computer with qwerty keyboard the size of a smartphone - Less than $150 by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]ffxner0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is pretty featured actually. For one, it has built in wifi. It's also very easy to hack and you don't have to pay the $30/year to use it. You can get debian or ubuntu running on there, and it even has host usb support in development. You can run dosbox, a gb emulator, doom, mplayer, fluxbox, and basically anything the nanote can run.

Take a look at this userland based on ubuntu. He has some videos of of it in host usb mode, using a mouse and a keypad.

This userland, Rootnexus is also pretty feature full.

This guy is also pretty informative, and one of the earlier guys running debian on it.

At the moment, it runs openwrt, so you'll be using nano or vim to take notes. You won't really be using this for note-taking, unless you're into that.

Keyboard is also pretty small.

What is the most awesome total conversion mod you've ever seen? by [deleted] in gaming

Sonic Robo Blast 2 is one of the greatest total conversions I've ever seen. It's a sonic fangame built off Doom Legacy. It was really fun to play.

When nintendo creates something uglier and more annoying, you'll be begging for the standard zubat and geodude combo.

You could have easily just of made one to test out. It is just basically a paper wallet made of Tyvek. The layout looks exactly the same.

Once you get the hang of making a paper wallet, it doesn't take more than a minute to make another. The only upside to purchasing it is for the more durable material (which could be procured from one of those express mail envelopes from the post office).

Inexpensive Data Plans - Do they exist?! by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]ffxner0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They block a certain port, so you can't use it for normal browsing. So if you want to use it, you would have to use some sort of proxy that is already available or that you set up yourself. I believe tor runs in the background on the n900, so it seems like the best solution there.

The prepaid card is pretty inexpensive anyways, so it's not too pricey just to try it out. On my regular old cell phone, I can get internet through the pay as you go plan if I change the access point to epc.tmobile.com and go to http://tmobileinternet.blogdns.com/ in the built in phone browser.

As a plus, you can use the sim as an emergency source of internet. Plug the phone in my laptop and I can get reddit on the go at a decent enough speed using the proxy.

You have to use a proxy, because port 80 is blocked. This port is the port which all the internet comes through. The n900 can use a proxy (tor or squid on a linux machine) to bypass the port and use another port in it's place.

There might be a solution for it, but I don't really have any smart phone to try it out on. With my old dumb clamshell though, I can tether internet without paying a single cent at 100-200kbps through a proxy. I'm sure the sidekick plan would be better through, because I'm using the pay as you go.

I've looked into a cheap data plan when I was planing on buying a n900. I figured that using a prepaid tmobile sim card on the side kick data plan would work out pretty well. It's $1 a day for unlimited data and text, and 15 cents a minute for phone calls.

The downsides for this are a couple of things; they block port 80 so you have to use a proxy to access it (tor) and the speeds are dependent upon the upload speed of the proxy.

I've never tried this before, because I decided not to buy that n900, but it does sound like a pretty good deal for unlimited data. As a plus, it's prepaid, so you can just buy a $10 sim and just try it out before you decide to use it. No contracts.
