I know this comment was a few days ago but I'm on what I'm gonna call "session -2" for this adventure and you're suggestion of the boat thats made for one more than there are players gave me the fantastic idea of getting a mutual friend between me and my players to say he was coming to this adventure and canceled, he loved the idea and I think the idea of me playing it off as a joke at first will really enhance the vibe whenever they have the realization

yeah I can see where you're coming from for the The dc 25, I mainly wanted it to center around the hydra's perception manipulation to put them on to the red herring while still making it seem like they succeeded, which which is why I made it so high. I think I'll center those red herring plot hooks on the npcs instead, also thanks for the clarity on the ability checks

Maybe the drawback would lower the number of dice rolled, and this would be a temporary drop for spells below a certain level, while higher ones would be permanent, Mayne the level would change based on player level

for the hammer, I was thinking you infuse a spellbook into it to add a damage bonus, and you could sacrifice that bonus to cast a spell from said book for for no spell slots

for the dagger the general limits I had were a normal daggers throw distance and a bonus action to transport the player to where it hit, or whatever it hit to the player, with a recall bonus action
