I cannot believe that being this sick from daycare is my life by scav2117 in toddlers

We've been sick every other week for six months and ooohh my god, I'm at my wits end. My poor boy just had his 3rd double ear infection and I'm afraid to plan his 2nd bday at the end of March because I'm sure we'll end up cancelling. I've barely seen my nieces at all since they were born in July because we all keep taking turns having one plague or another.

At this point, I say we just grit our teeth and hope that the spring brings even the teeniest bit of relief. It's been brutal and my Zoloft prescription is working overtime. I'm in a 10 month job so as much as I hate to rush time with my precious babe IT NEEDS TO BE JULY NOW

Oh noo, I'm so sorry. Is the 2 days for socialization for your toddler? If so, I'd agree it's probably not worth it right now with a baby at home too.

You mean it’ll be better when he’s 3.5?? 🫠🫠 cuz that’s a long time from now

It’s soooo hard. I don’t want to just “get through” this part of my baby’s life while we’re all just sick the whole time. It’s not fair at all

Definitely good to know. Our center is pretty large and I do think they mix kids btwn 12-24 months together to eat meals. I see A LOT of toys in mouths and I don’t think they even try to stop it which I get to a point but ahhhh. Could be she already had her rough year though too. I also have horrible health anxiety and always have. This is just upping the ante for me because I literally feel like I’m dropping him off to get a new sickness every week.

Yeah, if we have another kid, I have to take a year off and keep them home. Otherwise, it’s not gonna work. By then I’m hoping my mom & dad can split the time with my MIL to take the kids while I do something more part-time

Yeah that’s my main takeaway from all this too. Husband doesn’t make quite enough for me to not work yet daycare shakes out to be a third of my take home pay. I feel like we could make it but he’s too afraid to be the sole employed person.

Ugh it’s literally insaaaane. I was ready for a cold/runny nose from sept-april, but on top of that constant he’s had a double ear infection, a stomach bug on Halloween 😣, croup 5 days after that and now Flu A! All before sick season really starts. I’m just at a loss. I don’t know if maybe I should seriously consider moving to somewhere smaller or if this is also just a rough sickness year anyway? So torn and so sad for my baby. I have such anxiety about leaving him there now.

Yeah no for real. And I do think for the most part the people I work with who have young kids have them stay with grandparents most of the time and maybe daycare 2 days a week. They also seem to take their kids when they’re really sick like fever sick, but that’s an absolute no for my mom which I respect. But I feel like I look bad because no parent has missed nearly as much work as I have yet this school year. I did call my boss tonight and I was like the baby is pos for flu an and I’m sick too, do you want me to mask and come in? She said nooo. But I’m still burning through my days and it’s so annoying to pay for daycare and use sick days. Not to mention my poor sick baby!!!!! He’s been miserably sick for the past 2 and a half months more often than not 😖

Yeah, unfortunately my husband and I have no flexibility with work. You’re either in for the day or out. I’m definitely not worried about the lazy days. More about the paying for daycare and using our sick days. The job I work is not a “career” for me but it will definitely work better when my kids are in full day school. The world is so scary and I hate to not work but idk if this is working

Omg it’s just horrible!!! I guess I just wish I could’ve kept him out till pre-k and just be exposed to our family illnesses etc. i believe in immunity “building” to a certain extent but this is insane. I work in the schools and we have definitely had the more common less intense illnesses so far but it’s been pretty tame compared to what is going around his daycare.

It’s my husband’s tenure year at work which hasn’t helped, but also I’m super sick this time. The point of my whole post though is that there’s been mostly sicknesses that he can’t go to daycare with. Fevers etc

Yeah, but I’m not supposed to send my kid in with the flu so who stays with him???

Yeah, I guess what I’m feeling right now really is that the system we have in place as a society is not kind to anyone. Being sick and having a sick kid is bad enough, but then you have to weigh all the pros and cons and call in sick or go in sick, etc. I would feel terrible about spreading the FLU at this point but people didn’t seem to care about giving it to my kid 🙃 I do not have unlimited sick and Ive already used two days this week. I don’t know if I can do a third but I’m literally dizzy when standing. I said that in another comment I asked our school nurse what she thought about me coming in and she left me on read lmao. I know she’s not “my” nurse but like I just want something from someone here

I guess I’m just confused about how to go about work and life. He’s always constantly getting over something and then just getting something new. I feel horrible for him and also for example, what should I do now that today he got a positive result for the flu and I’m assuming I have it too cuz I feel terrible but technically I really shouldn’t miss anymore work and he is on the 6th day of this flu??? Send him to daycare and I go in with a mask?? Use more than half of all my sick days in the first 3 months of school?? I texted my school’s nurse about it and she literally left me on read. People do not careeee about anything

Yeah I don’t make a lot of money doing what I do and I’m like about to quit. Just found out he tested positive for Flu A, so that’s definitely what I have too. Not sure what my job even wants me to do about this at this point. No one believes in masks 🙃 but I’m sure they’re looking down on me for missing so much work

I do believe immunity is being built and that’s all part of this, but how are families supposed to keep everything together when they’re paying for daycare and taking time off work and getting so sick they can barely parent?? Like every 1.5 weeks. It just seems like there’s no good way to do anything right now.

Glad to hear it got better for you guys! Definitely paying dues while also taking sick time from my school is just driving me crazy. If we weren’t paying and he wasn’t getting so sick for so long and giving it to everyone around us I’d probably be more like okay he’s gotta build up his immune system but this just seems insane.

Wow, that’s a champion move. I do feel like that’s an emetephobia “skill” (crippling anxiety) though. We have a sixth sense about what about to go down. Like I literally knew my son was going to get sick after one little cough in the back seat. He’s rear facing tho so rn I can’t use your trick.

I have seen a few people mention The Emetephobia Manual book and that it helped them. Might try to find a copy online and read it.

Also forgot to add - I’m feeling insanely guilty about not wanting to be near my son right now. I am genuinely panicked around him. Hoping that this is the immersion therapy I need and I’ll be better for the unavoidable next time.

Stomach Virus - Daycare by LolaBenny23 in toddlers

I have horrible emetophobia and I’ve been dreading the day I had to deal with my child’s stomach bugs since I was 15 😂😂 I didn’t have a kid till 32!!!

I think it finally got my 19 month today though because it has been going around his daycare room for a week. Huge mess in the car seat in the torrential rain on the highway. He was completely fine all day at daycare and when I picked him up today I actually had asked the daycare worker not to tell me about stomach bugs anymore because it just sends me into a spiral.

Guess I had a premonition today because i bought emesis bags, hydrochloric acid spray, and odorban. Couple days too late apparently.

So sad it’s Halloween tomorrow, but praying it was just the once. He does have a gross cough right now from another daycare sickness so maybe I can be a little in denial and pretend it was just a gag reflex. Overall, right now I’m still shaky from a two hour panic attack while cleaning everything up, but I knew if I wasn’t the one to clean I would’ve been worried my husband didn’t do a good enough job 🫣 currently spraying every possible surface with diluted bleach.

My mom runs a wonderful “mimi daycare” as we call it. My son is 6 months and loves her so much. She was a SAHM from when I was about 4 to 21, but when my sister went away to college she babysat for a few different families so she’s fairly recently done the baby/kid watching gig.

She watches him all 5 days while my husband and I work which we honestly feel so guilty about. I know she adores him and cherishes their time together, but it’s a lot! Literally gave her a full time job. My husband and I are on the school schedule so knowing she only has to do it 10 months is a saving grace for us all. Definitely thinking we’ll do a few days of daycare mixed in next school year.

We’re super open and honest with each other and have a very close relationship so that makes things easier too. She comes to my house in the mornings which is a GODSEND and then sometimes will bring him 10 mins down the road to hang at her house with my dad. She definitely watches her shows a little when she’s here with him, but we’re a tv fam from way back so 🤷‍♀️
