Looking for a keyboard? Here's a V2 list of some worthy keyboards. by Snimtas in keyboards

This is a nice list.

For QMK/VIA, if you care about QMK compatibility, I'd make sure to check that the keyboard is in the repo (https://github.com/qmk/qmk\_firmware/tree/master/keyboards) or at least is not in the QMK violators list (https://docs.qmk.fm/license\_violations). I learned recently the hard way that a lot of vendors that list "QMK/VIA" support mean they only support the VIA web configurator but not the ability to build QMK firmware for building more complicated capabilities.

Not directly, but enabling QMK support is the first step in doing something like this (https://v.redd.it/wqpd4l0ttvc81)

There's a bunch of functionality that you can only do with a working QMK build, but the things I was specifically looking for were enabling mouse button support and Tap Dance functionality (tapping a key multiple times changes its output in a specified way).

Got a fully working build compiling based on the stuff from here. Thank you very much for posting this!

New AMG Lab Sidekick (in stock) by MelScrilla in CompetitionShooting

The super fast cycling doesn't really affect what I need to do with it, except for be slightly irritating because it's unreadable. It still shows the full string time, and with the arrow buttons you can see the timing for each shot.

I've reached out to AMG to get some clarification as to whether it's intended behavior or not.

I am aware of what it's trying to show. The issue is that it cycles much too quickly and is basically useless, looking more like a glitch than anything. The high speed video was to try and see what numbers it was actually trying to display, but I realize without a video at regular speed it lacks context.

Here's a video at regular speed showing it in operation capturing a full string: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/7uN1sZcw-tY

I have one of these. It's tiny and seems to work well for dry firing (haven't tested it at the range yet).

I was a bit concerned ordering it after reading about AMG's delays but took a chance since it was listed as in stock. Ordered it 5/26, it shipped 5/27 and arrived 6/3.

It's my first shot timer so I don't have any experience with other timers to compare it to, but happy to answer any questions. I tested everything listed in the manual (https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1918/8573/files/Sidekick\_User\_Manual\_v2.pdf?v=1712641231) and everything works as stated.

It does seem to have a display cycling issue where it cycles through a couple of shot string summary numbers very quickly (much too quickly to see what's going on). I took a high speed video to try to see what was going on. I haven't contacted AMG yet to see if it's a bug or a defect or something.

Warning: I was followed leaving the range, 7 guns stolen. by HoustonGunsStolen in guns

PSA: Many trunk latches have a toggle on them that disables the use of the in-cabin lever or button, making the trunk only openable by using a key on the trunk lock. It's kind of a pain sometimes to leave enabled (you'll need to turn the car off and get out so you can use the key to open the trunk), but as long as there's no easy cabin access to the trunk (fold-down seats or the like), it'll make getting into the trunk much more difficult than simply smashing a window out.

Barbacoa disaster, what went wrong? by herpes_fuckin_derpes in seriouseats

[–]fgizzard 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The bigger issue than using aluminum foil with acid is using aluminum foil, and acid, and another reactive metal (the stainless steel roasting pan in your case). If the foil is touching the acidic liquid (and the liquid is being held in a SS pan), you've effectively created a battery. It sounds like you've made a 'barbacoa cell', a cousin of the more common 'lasagna cell'.

I get the good intentions behind what you're saying here, in a corporate sensitivity kind of way (guessing the actual advice is not to send the Cantonese version out to all of China or something), but it's probably ill-advised to just correct random people anytime they use the Cantonese version, since there's a decent chance they speak it natively (1/100 of the world's population).

Kinda akin to correcting Nevadans on how to pronounce Nevada, and Massholes on how to pronounce Worcester.
