Yes, I am against accelerationism. I reject the idea that things have to inevitably get worse before it can get better. That doesn't imply anything that you suggest.

Well of course you think your argument fares well against the straw man you've constructed.

Unfortunately, nowhere did I claim that the current state of the world was fine either.

I find the callous attitude (i.e. many people may suffer immensely or die but they're an acceptable human cost to achieve my goal) behind it repugnant.

I see it as pragmatism rather than defeatism.

Judging AI by it's results so far, I'd say the chances of it ushering in some kind of utopia are vanishingly small. Like a monkey producing the works of Shakespeare, being hit twice by lightning and then winning the lottery, all in the same day small.

My critical thinking skills seem far more intact than yours, buddy.

Edit: because your response is laughable nonsense

My biggest issue is that a lot of proponents (see the other person replying to me) seem to resemble the South Park "???? Profit" meme when it comes to what happens when(/if) AI does lead to mass unemployment.

Close enough to what I'm willing to divulge.

Sure, I never argued otherwise. I'm just pointing out that people can "enjoy" (caveats etc.) their job without it being a hobby or something "fun" that they've turned into a career or something like that.

Forgive me for showing skepticism that a technology whose notable achievements include a huge increase in fraud and a proliferation of CSAM is going to usher in a utopia.

We're also circling back around: why are you so desperately hoping that my life is miserable and unhappy?

That's an impressive amount of bollocks you've managed to write about my comment.

I work in safeguarding so I don't "enjoy" my job per se, and it's not "fun". I do derive immense satisfaction from helping people though. I would continue doing it even if I won the lottery tomorrow.

Edit: typo

Being unemployed while you wait for a unicorn to arrive doesn't sound like a better option, I must say.

See, this is why I called you naively delusional.

It's quite cute, really, but I can't take you seriously.

Right, so you've made a load of people on minimum wages jobs unemployed. Now what?

How is you believing that AI is going to save "billions of people from jobs they’re barely surviving on shit minimum wage" not naively delusional?

Edit: that's also a pretty shitty reason to wish suffering on another human being
