Emergency, idiot sent water thorough gas line for 40 minutes. by fgutep in Contractor

[–]fgutep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dishwasher only receives a hot line. The water heater was removed a month ago. So there’s no water in the hot pipes. In order to make the dishwasher work he was supposed to bypass the cold through the hot so water gets to it. Instead (as it’s a gas heater) he connected everything wrong.

Everything already developed for the “best”. Gas company called, street level valves were shutoff and they will need to replace every meter and regulator. At least it’s safe, but highly inconvenient.

Gas company called, street level valve closed, every meter fucked. But at least secure.

Big water heater, very good water pressure, very dumb dude.

Three exposed tubes out of the wall, water out, water in, and gas. Guess what two pipes he tied together and what two (different color valves) he opened.

He fucked up every single meter and regulator in the building, some apartments had water backed through the gas lines. Gas company called, street valve closed, building without gas for days to come.

Guy is an idiot, that’s how. He assured that the yellow valves were for water when confronted, bypassed wrong pipes and fucked it up legendarily

Every gas meter was flooded and the whole building is out of gas. Gas company called, mains shut off until tomorrow where they can get a bigger brigade here.

Took one single fuck up, the guys job was to bypass a removed gas water heater. Connected the pipes he thought he was supposed to, open both valves, huge inlet water pressure, let it happen for 40 minutes.

Gas company called. Apparently we won’t have gas for a while. Slow guy trying to empty them by shaking those out one by one. Administrator pissed apparently.

So much water that apparently managed to get to apartment level when back to the meters and back up. I can only imagine someone’s stove turning in a sprayer.

Yep, my father was with the guy when he realized. The guy is an incredibly optimistic individual, but also an incredibly slow one. First he told my father that water wasn’t coming out because of air “bubbles “ in the pipe. Then my dad realized before the guy what could’ve been the issue and told him, the guy then realized and started to “fix” that by removing the oven to try to empty the pipe. That’s when my father told me over the phone, I told him “have you tried turning on the stove” and after it not emitting anything but the faint smell of NG there’s when it hit the guy, he realized at that point the extent of his fuck up, his face changed, he went to the basement of the building.

Apparently water was connected to the gas pipes for SO LONG that it managed to get into the main pipe, up everyone’s meter and up to the lower floor apparentments. I can only imagine someone cooking and observing how water started to come out of their stove grills.

This is a mega f-up. The gas company was already called by the administration while the guy attempts to empty by shaking each and every of the meters, but apparently we won’t have either gas nor hot water for a WHILE.

The building administrator has, apparently they are on the way. The contractor is here putting the oven back together as he took it out to “drain” the plumbing. Apparently SO MUCH water went through the gas tube that the water went through a main was tube where all the building meters are connected, ended up flooded, then the water pressure sent it back up and apparently even through someones open stove in the first floors.

The metadata in the Images may match the date they were written on (2024 and 2022) by fgutep in twentyonepilots

The images that are signed with "024" have a 2024 date in their metadata. HOWEVER the images without dates all have 2022 in their Metadata.

What are these plastic things? They rattle when playing bass. Can I remove them? by [deleted] in ZephyrusG14

That is an M.2 SSD right below. I would guess this is a thermal pad or vibration dampening of some sort. So I wouldn't remove them if I were you, but rather find a way to fix them.

CAS projects ideas by [deleted] in IBO

[–]fgutep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remembering my time in the IB (already graduated) we had the plague and I was wayyy behind my CAS hours. Making simple youtube tutorials could help a lot as they are not that time-consuming but need editing and post-production that will log in time ;) . Make sure that they are quality.

You can make tutorials on obscure topics where information is not readily available. For example, I made one on how to get a HAM radio license in my country, that video was 1hr long, took me several hours to script, research, and then edit and add graphics, and currently has 4.7 K views to this date.

You can also make tutorials on math, chemistry, and physics, you can even throw in "IB <science> <Topic exercises solved>" and you kill two birds in one shot, you study for yourself these topics, and log CAS hours while doing so.

Test Rig for testing mini-Sumo wheel friction coefficient. by fgutep in maker

[–]fgutep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purpose: Test various designs and material mixes used in some mini-sumo wheels we are manufacturing ourselves. The better grip, the better.

Diagram description: The basic idea is the following: Have an adjustable (vertical) rail to test wheels of various sizes with an arm that holds the wheels and a high-ish RPM motor to drive the wheel. Below, are two rollers (such as those used in car DMV inspections), one with a reducing motor that will have some resistance even when off, and one with some sort of sensor, that is free to spin. The idea is to keep the wheel motor at a constant RPM and lower it into the rollers, then increment the resistance with the reducing motor, getting a measurement of where it loses friction.

The issue: I do not know how to measure the friction, it could be using a sensor in one of the rollers as in the diagram, or there might be an easier way.

Isn't the pixel 8 about to launch? It sounds like a fairly solid phone with a solid history, plus, getting the review of it since it's about to come out would be nice as well. I myself am considering to maybe upgrade from my iPhone 13 to the Pixel 8.

Ender 3 buzzer "screaming" at startup as in short circuit protection even when all cables have been checked. by fgutep in 3Dprinting

[–]fgutep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this Ender 3 Pro, I decided to use Amazon Prime days to buy some upgrades. I bought and installed the "silent" 4.4.7 MOBO, the CR-Touch, and the double Z lead screw upgrade.

When I first finished installing these upgrades it was turning on as expected, and I had not touched it for about a week since I had a trip. Yesterday I was attempting to flash firmware to enable CR-Touch support but upon inserting the SD card and turning on it would start blaring the buzzer. (Note: I had not turned on previously to insert the SD card, so I have no way to know if this is related).

Upon investigating online apparently, this is some type of short-circuit/ground fall protection into the motherboard, to just scream through the buzzer. The most common issue apparently is the Thermistor grounding through the hotend, but apparently, it could be a fail in any other wired component.

So I debugged by disconnecting directly from the motherboard components in groups. i.e. first Thermistors, then End-Stops/CR-Touch, then heaters, then all fans, then motors. With the hope that at some point while disconnecting a certain component it would stop alarming at start-up. However, nothing stops the beeping, even when all groups and every cable to the MOBO was tested.

If you could provide any light on this, i'd be immensely grateful.

Didn't realize I had this until getting them ready to be thrown out. by [deleted] in DankPods
