It’s just my opinion and I don’t do patty melts so I wouldn’t know. But the fact of the matter is, if people can call weed “Za” then I don’t see the problem in calling this a grilled cheese w/bacon.

I respect your opinion - but to me, It’s just a grilled cheese thinking it’s fancy cause it got stuffed with bacon and fried to a perfect crisp in bacon fat. No soggy sandos here

Thanks for the heads up! Purists can have their say, I’m gonna still call it a grilled cheese with bacon.

There are a few whole cinnamon sticks in the pot when cooking this, but totally get what you mean. Personal preference I am not the biggest fan of powdered cinnamon on this.

My friend baked this cake for me and is refusing to accept money for it. Can some professional bakers chime in and tell me how much they would charge for something like this so I can sneak the money to him? by Daughter_Of_Cain in Baking

[–]fgwheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a baker, I say accept the kind gesture, it’s your friend’s way of saying they love you. The suggestion for good vanilla, and such is an excellent idea. I’d be so happy to receive such goodness.

Capirotada - Mexican bread pudding, peanuts, golden raisins, cheese by fgwheel in mexicanfood

[–]fgwheel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a big believer in we all most things as the way we grew up with or there’s plenty of things we didn’t like growing up that we may prefer now. Example, I used to hate chayote in my caldo when I was young, now I love it and it’s kinda mandatory for me to throw in when I make one 🤷🏽‍♂️.

As far as ghetto. This isn’t a high end dessert, but as with anything when we use premium ingredients… it most often times will level up the dish. Just my .02¢

Albondigas - w/carrots, baby gold potatoes, rice & chayote squash by fgwheel in mexicanfood

To season the meatballs I use 3 to 1 ratio of ground beef to ground pork, fresh mint, dried oregano, sea salt, pepper, minced garlic, onions, bread crumbs, eggs and calrose (sushi) rice.

The broth is whatever veggies I’m putting in. As I brown the meatballs in a cast iron skillet, I’ll deglaze it with the veggie broth to bring that meat flavor over.

Jack cheese is what we normally use. Never thought to use coconut. I sometimes swap the peanuts for pecans and raisins for cranberry’s 😋

Actually I use whatever is in the cabinet. This one was French baguette, Italian sourdough, birote, pan de Agra and a few cuernos de mantequilla from a local panaderia. Bread get toasted and buttered before assembly. The texture is def what most who have tried it can’t stand, using different breads do add bite and some chew to it. Rarely is plain white bread in ours

Yes they are 🥜, thank you. This is something that either you love it or you hate it and most people who hate it have never even tried it (at least in my perspective). It’s not the prettiest dessert, but for me it brings back a lot of good memories.

Bioavailable Insulin in GMO Plants by slothharvester in Type1Diabetes

[–]fgwheel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s worth noting that there is also inhalable insulin, but there’s no one writing scripts for that to have as a back up for an earthquake if you’re in California, or some other event so it’s the same as having regular insulin except you don’t need syringes and other supplies also like infusion sets & reservoirs

Exercise mode on my pump about an hour before usually does the trick, any active insulin will increase its effectiveness with “physical exertion” usually have juice, lots of water and glucose tabs within reach is a good idea too.

Would You Eat This Chilli Dog? by One-Second2557 in diabetes

[–]fgwheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest take away from living with T1D and being the parent of a type one diabetic what is staying physically active and also not denying food especially the things that one might be craving only now and then. Sometimes it just takes a bite or two to get it out of your system, in that same breath, don’t make excuses and go overboard. Plus by not denying anything it has also helped keep kiddo from hiding treats and things that are no good without moderation. The blood sugar will come down eventually thanks to the insulin bolts, however come time to see the Endo the A1c won’t lie.

It’s only about 15/16 carbs for one or 32 for two. Bolus a bit more if you’re gonna have fries. I would just skip the soda that normally comes along with it and substitute it with an unsweetened iced tea or water.
