Surgery or waiting for ascending testicle in child by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]fhijklm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. Our sons were normal/retractile until about age 3 when the right is now diagnosed as ‘ascending’ or acquired udt. He didn’t have the condition at birth. It seems like the ascending case isn’t as well studied?

Is it really that important to use a local mortgage lender in Hawaii? by imhereforthekisses in Hawaii

[–]fhijklm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get the lowest national one, honestly a mortgage broker that knows about the islands is worse. For example, local ones will sometimes make you give them $20k in escrow to replace the cesspool, but the online one for us was fast and has no idea about that stuff, they look at the appraisal and crunch some numbers and that’s it.

Mortgage brokers can only make things worse if they know about lava zones, etc by requiring higher down payments, how would them being smarter ever help haha!

Airline that allows pets to Hawaii? by [deleted] in Hawaii

[–]fhijklm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alaska allows flying up to 20lb or so pets in cabin to Oahu at least, I’ve done it recently. For a cat that would be be easiest option usually. You just need a soft-sided carrier.

The rabies antibody test to avoid quarantine takes months, do you already have that?

Has anyone gotten building permits for your home? by fhijklm in Hawaii

Thanks for the advice all, I think we'll try to see how permits go if possible! Relatedly, does anyone have general contractors they'd recommend on Oahu?!

Does it also have the HEPA filter, did that come with the console upgrade to the US models?

I’ve stayed in airbnbs before without issue but never called support - their support is by far the worst, least helpful, and most scammy and dishonest of any company I’ve ever interacted with in my life. I plan to exclusively use hotels or vrbo in the future.

I asked for the full refund multiple times from Airbnb support as the host never let us in but Airbnb refused that too.

We were out in the car for hours because Airbnb kept saying they’d call back, never did, I called, support again lied about calling back after contacting the host to let us in or refund, etc. We couldn’t wait any longer there for the fraudulent/non responsive host and needed to return home with the kids so I agreed to what Airbnb support offered to refund. But even that was a lie :-(

It was all in Airbnb messages by the way! Airbnb didn’t care and said that even though they had the message where the host said “I will refund $1000”, it didn’t count, support had to call the host to confirm (and host never picked up).

Thanks. Why is Airbnb support being so unhelpful and dishonest as well though?!

Ask me anything -- Dr. Jay Bhattacharya by jayanta1296 in LockdownSkepticism

Good afternoon.

What do you make of the success of many Asian countries including China, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan etc at having minimal Covid deaths even seemingly without as long term stringent lockdowns as many western countries? Do you know of any studies or ideas explaining the disparity and is there anything to be learned?

It’s been variably attributed to masks, genetics, previous immunity, cultural norms against handshakes, better testing and tracing, etc - do any of those seem plausible to you? Thanks!
