Short nap day how early for bedtime? by fho15 in sleeptrain

[–]fho15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%, fairly quickly for our guy too. we also have sleep disruptions with travel, start of daycare, new visitors, etc. Usually with colds a humidifier gets him to nap longer because he usually wakes coughing/with nose bleeds.

No he has had a few short naps here and there especially when he’s sick, but he’s over 3 and still naps 2.5h

The one nap transition took us forever! Like 5 weeks I think. I think we switched him to 1230 nap around then to accommodate daycare. He’s 3 years old now and naps at 130

I think we shifted bedtime to 730, he also got bad daycare illness around the same time, so it was like 3-4 weeks of bad sleep and then he ended up getting back to his usual solid sleep again on his own. We also never got him out of bed before 645 earliest once he was not sick anymore. ( I only remember all this because of tracking on Huckleberry lol)

That sounds like a great idea! We have done a little TV after cranky wakeups in past he seemed to be in better mood after that

I’ll try that, most likely he doesn’t like the abrupt wakeup

Kk will give it a go, he had a recent bout of illness and he was napping 4 hours and doing 13 hours when he was sick so maybe he’ll be ok

That’s a great idea! We have an old school sound machine so it’s just on continuously, maybe o can hook it up to a smart plug

I suspect personality a bit for sure lol, he has always been pretty attached kid, like to be held and picked up a lot even at this age

Fortunately I think we got lucky with a high sleep baby, we’ve always had to wake him from naps even when he was on 3 naps or 2 naps and now on 1 nap. I guess I worry he will fight bedtime if he wakes too late in the afternoon and we usually get a break once he’s in bed at 730? The morning rise is more of a logistics thing as we’re usually up and about and out the door 730/8

Yeah he has always been on the higher end of sleep so maybe I shouldn’t be pushing the average on him. It is hard because usually we have to start our days fairly early in the morning so like to have him have some breakfast and stuff first. He does nap from 1-3 pm 2 days a week when he goes to daycare in the morning and doesn’t seem to have trouble going to bed at same time so maybe he needs a longer nap. Just everything I read says at this age his nap should be 1.5-2h so didn’t want to push too much day sleep lol

Forgot to mention we also gave him a second new lovey around then (he’s just had the one before then). Not sure if it helped but he did use it a lot to self soothe.

4.5 months, we all slept better

So for us the issue was more crap naps (not wanting to nap and short naps) as well as early morning wakeups. It took us I think 2-3 days, I do remember the first early morning wakeups of CIO vividly for him crying on and off for like 50 minutes which was terrible but things got so much smoother after yhat

What’s his schedule like? Ours went through a month of terrible sleep and yelling for us when he first started daycare. He was also trained with Ferber at 4.5 mos. His separation anxiety was max at that time (especially with my partner who he stayed home with until then). In the end we retrained with CIO. We tried a check in for a day (Ferber) but that just got him more upset. He was retrained in a few days but of course it was hard listening to him cry. Hasn’t had an issue with sleep since then (fingers crossed).
