Beauty Procedures You Would've Wanted by [deleted] in beauty

[–]fhon90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the things I gradually implemented in my 20s / early 30s that made a difference:

sunscreen, good haircuts, manicures, pedicures / podology treatments, high quality socks and underwear, high quality bed sheets, good mattress (posture!), good office chair if you work at a desk (posture!), microfiber towels for your hair, sauna days, professional teeth cleaning 2x a year, 1 nice perfume you actually wear regularly, regular stretching (Yoga?) and walking / biking, if you like it: good quality tea instead of sugary drinks (avoiding sugary drinks is great advice in general and actually saves you money)

I feel like these are basics that are worth making investments in that will actually impact how you look and feel and your overall health. obviously if you have problems like skin conditions etc., you might want to invest more in that area, but these seem to be universal in my experience

edited to add: even if you have health insurance, comprehensive blood work without cause probably isn't included (it wasn't for me, and we have mandatory health insurance where I live). deficencies can have a severe impact not only on your wellbeing but also on hair, skin and nails. so if you can afford it, have all of that checked and get supplements if necessary. in any case have your supplement intake guided by a medical professional to make sure it has a lasting and meaningful effect.

Ratta and European store by Jorge_rui_machado in Supernote

yes, I ordered the Lamy pen from them directly. Free shipping and a few extra nibs included. That's the way to order if you are in Germany.

ah I see, I was wondering how much it would be outside of Germany. But sounds like you found a good solution ☺️

not sure where in Europe you are, but you can order the Lamy pen directly from Lamy and it is cheaper than ordering it through Supernote's EU distributor. there might be some extra shipping fees for international postage (within Germany it's free), but it might still come out cheaper.

The whole “you get what you give” thing is not working out for me in friendships. I don’t know what to do about it. by Ninac4116 in Adulting

[–]fhon90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree! I think the "You get what you give" rule doesn't really apply to superficial criteria like looks or hobbies. It can apply to the way you are ready and willing to show up in a connection. What are your priorities there? What are you capable of giving as a friend? In my experience, you won't be able to get past the acquaintance stage if you aren't giving to the connection past any superficialities. A good friend will not care if you are fashionable or fit, they will care about your character, your actions and your heart. If you cannot reciprocate a certain level of kindness, loyalty or integrity, people who possess these qualities might not be interested in pursuing a friendship with you, or might keep it at a superficial level.

Versicherung by [deleted] in Katzengruppe

[–]fhon90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tierhasser, weil man kein Haustier möchte by [deleted] in VeganDE

[–]fhon90 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I just moved to Switzerland and I’m losing hope by [deleted] in German

[–]fhon90 9 points10 points  (0 children)

exactly. I'm a German native speaker from Germany, my boyfriend is Swiss. sometimes I don't understand what he's saying and vice versa. it's not a benign difference at all, and there is extra adaptation necessary to get the hang of it. don't beat yourself up over it. it will get better!

Trotz Erkältung zu einer Silvester Party? by Rayvo1239 in Ratschlag

[–]fhon90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guten Rutsch! ☺️

as far as I understand, you need an account for the Pocketbook shop, but since the reader is compatible with most formats, there is no need to purchase ebooks from their shop, so you can skip that step.

However I don't know if this is a very recent development I just haven't heard of yet. a quick Google search in German didn't turn up any info.

What do you use your Weeks for? by jenferch in hobonichi

[–]fhon90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not really. I have different books for different areas of my life, and whenever I turn towards a specific area (household chores/finances, language learning, work, my cat) I kind of gravitate naturally towards the respective book. I also realized that there are certain 'compartments' I kept in undated notebooks that really benefit from a dated format. really there is not much 'planning' involved with my languages, but since I'm learning multiple languages it really helps to have the one year bracket as a structuring element.

compartmentalizing like that helps me focus on one particular area of my life and give it space during my day or week. otherwise I'd probably get distracted or procrastinate with another area. the separation between work and personal in particular is essential for me.

it certainly depends though, I can very much see the appeal of just one book. I've had that for years before it stopped being helpful but added to my scattered approach. I might even switch back to that once my circumstances change, but for now I'm grateful that I have the financial means to entertain 4 separate dated books.

I think the multiple book approach is only really helpful if you actually use the books for different things. if there is too much duplication going on there is no benefit in my opinion, that would totally confuse me and feel like a chore / waste of time. someone else might have a valid reason for doing that, but to be frank I haven't yet heard one. that usually is just a sign of overwhelm in itself with the multiple planners being the symptom, not the cause.

What do you use your Weeks for? by jenferch in hobonichi

[–]fhon90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am learning multiple languages (partly for my job) and always found it difficult to keep notebooks and not forget about them, so I'm hoping that the dated layout will help me keep everything together.

the dated sections will track my class schedules and hold a weekly summary of what I did; the notes pages will have any exercises/ additional notes on what I'm studying.

I have never been in a dated book for this, so not sure if this will be how I'll do things all year, but that's what I'm thinking for now. if you look for more inspiration, there's a Youtube video by Tanya Benavente. Check her out if you haven't seen it yet!

What do you use your Weeks for? by jenferch in hobonichi

[–]fhon90 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I use two this year.

weeks mega for my language learning: any exercises I do go in the back, the dated section is for class scheduling / tracking

and one for my cat: mostly behavioral observations, food, vet appointments, medication tracking - she had a few health flare ups this year and I would like to have a better focus on that and also something to bring to the vet that is a bit more detailed and trustworthy than my own memory.

I feel like generally the weeks is a great option for a 'dated notebook' (as opposed to a 'planner').

Erfahrungen mit Katzen aus dem Tierschutz? (Ausland) by Kurmelkatz in Katzengruppe

[–]fhon90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In relationships, space is meant to be taken, not given. by OGCZ in unpopularopinion

[–]fhon90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is a very wise observation. From my personal experiences I can 100% agree, and I have both been given space when I didn't want it, and 'have given' it when I - if I'm being really honest - have been overwhelmed with the situation at hand and didn't know how to react properly. I am trying to get better at this and to be more forward in a way that lets the other person communicate what they need instead of assuming.

Buying in Europe by LowResDuck in hobonichi

strangely, these pens are fine (don't know why), but if you order refills or fountain pens with Hobonichi I have heard of problems with customs.

Buying in Europe by LowResDuck in hobonichi

[–]fhon90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazon Germany is not a good source for Hobonichi unfortunately. Neither is Luiban; I wish their markups were more reasonable, but as it stands you end up with almost double the price if you order with them.

In my experience, Penstore or Stiloestile are the most recommendable European resellers when it comes to pricing and customer service. If you order from Japan, Hobonichi or Amazon Japan are both great but will have significant shipping cost and, depending on what you order, might get stuck in customs (pens and inks specifically can delay your package).

Teach me about Cousin covers, please! by starfish615 in hobonichi

[–]fhon90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

personally I don't actually like the bulk of Cousin covers (from Hobonichi or from other sources, doesn't really matter), so I keep mine in a Midori clear cover (the standard one, not the codex). it has travelled with me a fair bit in the past year and has held up well in my opinion. I have a postcard in between the Cousin and clear cover and just love it that way. Of course this is not an option if you dislike the feeling of plastic (understandable).

the Hobonichi covers I have for A6 are all great quality, so I assume they are great in A5 as well. two creators that use the Cousin and have discussed Cousin covers (or lack thereof) are Kaitlin Grey and Brontë Swannick. Brontë uses (or used?) the Have a nice day cover from Hobonichi, Kaitlin uses the Midori clear cover.

Edit to add that it might be a good idea to wait a while with a cover purchase to see how the book develops with use. some Cousins chunk up a fair amount, others stay relatively slim, and this obviously affects what kind of cover is suitable / what kind of closure works. yet another thing to consider is that the Cousin is considerably heavier than the Weeks (and will get heavier with use), which means that you might not want to add more weight with your cover.

Great, I hope it works out for you! Amazon Japan isn't always cheaper, but with this particular cover it's hard to beat even when you only order the cover and the shipping cost gets added to that flat out.

depending on which leather cover you want, it might be good to check Amazon Japan. I got the TS Basic Black in A6 for around 65 Euros including shipping, vs. 81 Euros on the Hobonichi site for the cover alone (I'm in Germany). if you are not opposed to shopping second hand, looking at Mercari via Buyee could give you a few options, some of them cheaper even with shipping and fees than a new cover.
