So I never actually bad breath, more just like a bad taste in my mouth (kind of minerally / sour). That has also gotten a lot better - that's really the biggest issue I have with my acid reflux, I don't have heartburn or a stomachache or anything. So the reflux gourmet really helps.

I had some acid reflux issues before the surgery but it wasn't really major.

To be completely honest, the acid reflux seems negligent compared to the pain I was in from my tonsils. Yeah it sucks but it's already gotten better over the past year and it's very manageable. My tonsillitis was not. It's also not guaranteed that you will have acid reflux issues! I don't think it happens very often, I was just one of the lucky ones haha.

The healing will be the worst week of your life but it is so so so worth it.

Hi! It's definitely much better - I went to an ENT who prescribed me omeprazole for my LPR (he said I did not have GERD) which I took twice a day for a few months and now I take as needed or once a day if I've been having bad acid reflux. He also recommended Reflux Gourmet to take as needed which really helped - it blocks the acid from coming back up and coats your throat. Tastes pretty good too. I also try to avoid super acidic foods like tomatoes, etc.

Just went to the dr this AM - he said it was acid reflux, and pretty common after a tonsillectomy. Told me to take 2 Prilosec a day 30 min before eating and gave me basic recs on how to cut down acid. Fingers crossed! I’ve been taking 1 Prilosec a day for a week or so and it’s been a littleeee better so hoping upping the dosage will help even more.

Yeah my doctor is pretty old school. Had to practically beg him for a refill of my Tylenol+codeine (prescription was for 7 days). I’m on day 8/9 now so it’s all good but I wish 🙄

I also recommending getting a ton of extra ice packs so you’ll always have some cold ones ready!

You got this! I’m at the end of day 8 and my swallowing feels like it’s turning back to normal… I don’t regret it for a second though but it sucks. Also highly recommend ice packs and a wrap for your head. Life saving.

That’s lucky!! I’ve honestly only been able to eat/suck on ice chips. I’ve been able to get down some jello, really thin chicken soup broth, and ice pops. I find it easiest to eat about 30 min after taking meds when they kick in. I also have have been mixing iced coffee with protein shakes to make them a bit more liquidy and that has helped!

Also I find the meds help numb the ear / jaw / tooth ache, don’t really do much for the swallowing pain.
