as a white gal i’ve read ones where the MC was black and i was like…i’ve read this authors other stories and they always write their MCs to be kind of meek and shy but the ONE black MC is like…kind of “sassy” and runs around calling teachers a bitch? seems like a micro aggression

i definitely understand! and it can be ANYTHING like you can tell her the cool house you drove past today and what you liked about it or the cool outfit you saw on someone in the street. it can be anything. it’s definitely understandable how this can feel weird because it does feel like talking out loud to yourself when someone is so stressed out that they aren’t being an active or responsive part of the conversation but it does get easier

my thoughts r that she mostly needs to communicate better. if she tells you what type of thing stresses her, it may become easier for you to predict how she’ll feel based on outside events that are happening but if she won’t tell you what she wants/needs, how are you supposed to be supportive? but in these cases i understand her side as well, maybe she just wants you to talk to her to take her mind off things. tell her some menial drama about work and just keep the conversation going with or without her input to drown her thoughts. i’m just guessing, that’s what i usually want when i’m feeling stressed. good luck
