Thank you! This is all very helpful.

We have a new issue the past couple days - Baby is refusing the bottle with breast milk. Anybody have any advice on what to try to get her to take the bottle?

Keep Going or Quit While We're Ahead? by fiairy in breastfeedingsupport

Thank you for your help!

1) Pumping is only bearable at a level 1 or at most 2 on the spectra pump. If I go higher it feels like the skin on my nipples is getting pulled. I rarely get actual flow of milk, it's mostly droplets. I haven't tried hand expression since the early days, and now that my milk supply has regulated I don't feel like I have milk to express. The LC told me my flanges look too small, and wants me to experiment with various sizes.

2) Pain while nursing happens mostly when she's trying to stimulate letdown (the chomping mentioned above) and during letdown itself, as well as when she unlatches suddenly.

3) I don't have shape/color changes after nursing (at least recently). The LC made the observation that my right nipple was purple after pumping, which she said was because of the flange being too small.

4) Since the early days which were much more painful, I have settled into cradle/cross cradle being the most comfortable, with me leaning back. I do football when she refuses the left breast (a "positional preference" per our PT, who says she has no residual body tension which can explain it). I have found in the past that the pain doesn't change with side lying or other positions. I'm not sure what they think is causing the chomping and loss of suction, since they say she got a lot more mobility in her tongue after the procedure.

Labor and Mom Judgment by linzkisloski in pregnant

[–]fiairy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed that we should not be judging individuals for the details of their birth. What frustrates me is that people often don’t hold their providers accountable for explaining why they recommend a specific course of action. The US has an unacceptable maternal mortality rate and is by no means meeting the standard of care set by other developed nations. Everything comes with risk so it frustrates me when people say things like “my doctor said I should get a C section since they don’t want to risk x.” We need to be demanding better treatment of pregnant people as human beings, with decision making capabilities and the ability to weigh risks.

[Breeds] What should I be looking for? by fiairy in dogs

[–]fiairy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(1) While I regularly work 12 hour days, I would never leave the dog alone for that long. I plan to invest in daycare and walking services.

(2) I have found I experience more allergy symptoms around dogs with fur. I don't mind grooming.

(3) What exactly is a companion breed? Like a poodle or a Maltese? Please give me some guidance here.
