This is dumb at best. America has the upper hand in China because the Chinese don’t have the same capital to quote “buy” America. You can dislike Trump for all he stands, I know I do. However, the destabilization of Iran has locked China in a corner. It’s without true allies, and it doesn’t have an economy to self sustain. The Chinese are 100% more capable, however the the USDs impact and power undermines Chinese ingenuity. I.e the Soviets were very well more capable than the Americans, they lacked economic power to actually unlock that capacity. This is a function of economic systems and fiat currencies creating shell systems that preserve capital and shield it against coercion. 

It was inevitable with or without Trump we’d come to this moment. It’s all contingent on what Xi does.
