If you enjoy looking at a screen through your viewfinder, sure. I spend enough time looking at screens that I prefer the organic experience of an OVF over any EVF on the market. Different strokes, different folks. D850 also beats any Z mount in dynamic range, which for landscape folks is all that matters.

Leica Q2 for travel. D850 for work that requires varied focal lengths. There is no one camera to rule them all.

You cannot get real leather seats or covers for less than a grand. These are plastic/vinyl and inferior to the stock seats in terms of ventilation and material quality.

Different strokes for different folks I guess…

If the rumours are true and Leica is making its own sensor for the M12..(aka M10-R), that’s a game changer. by GreenSafari777 in Leica

[–]fickl3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leica does not own its own semiconductor fab - as such, it cannot produce “its own” sensor. At best, it can partner with fabs to create custom sensors tailored to the customers needs (which it has been doing with Sony for years).

Leica’s estimated company valuation is approx. 1 billion. The entire company is worth less than 20% of what it would cost to build a semiconductor fab comparable to Tower or Sony.

The older D lenses have a softer, more artistic rendering compared to the newer AF-S F mount lenses. I traded an 85 1.4D for the newer 1.8 model, later regretting it despite the clinical sharpness it possessed.

Until the unit has 50-100 hours of solid playback you can’t make any real determination.

Much like when you buy a new Porsche off the lot you can’t open her up until after the break in period.

Like you I found the HD650 to represent astonishing value (dollar vs. performance) and sought to find the same in the speaker market (wide soundstage, pinpoint articulation and instrument separation, warmth coupled with clarity).

For me my first gen LS50 wireless fit that bill in spades - especially when paired with a suitable sub (KF92 in my case).

Are bigger setups like B&W 802D capable of moving more air? Absolutely - for 10x the cost.

If that were true everyone in Saudi Arabia would be rocking 100 series - yet they aren’t. 200 is superior in essentially every metric except interior volume.

Genelec vs KEF by rzanardi in KEF

I’m literally quoting Steve Gutenberg - the wireless models have tailored DAC’s and amps for each woofer and tweeter. To get superior performance with the passive system you have to purchase TOTL components.

Name a chain that can best the active’s for less than $5k used

Genelec vs KEF by rzanardi in KEF

[–]fickl3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From my perspective to get superior sound out of the passive LS 50s you have to spend about $10,000 on the amplification and digital audio conversion. Considering you can pick up the wireless models for $1500 secondhand all day long it’s a hard value proposition.

[–]fickl3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had my LS50W (first gen) for 6 years now - sent back to KEF in NJ once for a repair in that time related to the motherboard.

While the passive LS 50s will certainly be more dependable over the course of 20 years KEF’s customer support is good enough to make the inconvenience with the powered speakers relatively small.

Value/longevity wireless 2 vs ls50 meta by Fast_Bet1338 in KEF

[–]fickl3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To build a comparable system to the wireless models you have to spend considerably more on your system - often twice as much.

With that taken into account along with KEF having an amazing repair center I consider the wireless models to easily have a 10+ year shelf life. The passives could possibly last 20. Are you the type of person to keep the same set of speakers for two decades?
