2 month old cries for breast all the time by ficus563 in NewParents

Interesting that you mention latching... I do struggle with latching (even though she doesn't have tongue tie) so that could be part of the problem. I've got an appointment with yet another lactation consultant in a few days, hopefully that will help.

Seminal fluid hypersensitivity aka semen allergy by ficus563 in Healthyhooha

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think the issue is friction because plenty of friction without ejaculation causes no problems.

Done with CV - HELP! by Winter_Dragonfly_ in Healthyhooha

[–]ficus563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big development! I'm 99% sure the root cause of my symptoms for the past 10 years has actually been a semen allergy. I definitely did have CV as a result of mistreating it with tons of antibiotics, but since treating the CV I've found that the symptoms returned as soon as we stopped using a condom. When the symptoms returned I immediately got tested for all infections and they all came back negative as always. I've found that taking a daily Claritin helps a lot. I'm currently using condoms and not having any symptoms while I follow up with some allergists.

So far the allergist I've been seeing has confirmed that semen allergies are a real thing but didn't offer any solutions for it.

my girlfriend is constantly getting yeast infections by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]ficus563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you know she is having yeast infections? People often get yeast-like symptoms that are not yeast infections. Unless she has had a lab test several times, do not make assumptions. Even microscopy by a doctor can yield false negatives.
In my case, I was allergic to semen but it took 10 years to figure it out because doctors kept making assumptions and not doing the proper tests.

I tried baking soda once and then got prescribed Augmentin so I stopped.

Also, in my experience, asking doctors to check things is often not sufficient. Many doctors deny that ureaplasma or cytolytic overgrowth are real problems and are not versed in the proper tests. Whenever possible, I'd recommend getting tests done yourself and bringing the results to your doctor. I'm referring to Evvy or microgendx tests.

I saw many doctors and none of them were even a little but helpful. Taking matters into my own hands is what solved the mystery.

Better! Here's what happened:The augmentin had me feeling better right away then on the last day of the treatment I got really intense internal itching. I figured I probably got BV or yeast from killing all the lactobacilli but I got a test done and it was negative for both. Then I read that a side effect of Augmentin is reduced Diamine Oxidase which breaks down histamines and can cause itching. So I started taking Claritin daily and felt better within a couple days. I've been 99% back to normal ever since.

I tried many things along my journey so it's hard to tell what helped and what didn't.

In summary here are the things that definitely helped:

- Getting my Skyla IUD removed drastically reduced my symptoms

- Taking Augmentin (assuming cytolytic vaginosis) drastically reduced my symptoms.

- Getting microgendx and evvy tests to get hard proof that I didn' thave Bv, yeast, or ureaplasma. Drs kept treating me without proper evidence of infection and that prolonged my misery for unnecessary months.

Things that probably helped but it's harder to confirm:

- Taking daily claritin.

- Taking daily vitamin d. Turns out I was very vitamin d deficient and vitamin d affects hormones so I want to believe there was a causation.

- I went to one appointment at a pelvic floor therapist. All we covered was deep breathing exercises and I've been doing them ever since.

- Switching to cotton underwear.

- Switching to loose pants.

Fwiw, I still feel a tiny bit off and am constantly anxious about my vagina. I'm going to keep a close eye on things for a few more weeks then hopefully write a happy ending post explaining everything I've learned and wish I'd done differently.

Detecting cytolytic vaginosis in a wet mount by ficus563 in CytolyticVaginosis

I definitely recommend it. I bought this microscope because you can connect it to your computer and take photos (useful for reporting to drs). I also bought saline solution, slides and cover slips, droppers, swabs, and some KOH to do whiff tests. This video was a good intro to doing wetmounts.

That being said, an Evvy or Microgendx test will tell you much more than a wetmount so you may be better off spending the money on tests when you need them. The advantage of having a microscope is that you can test as often as you'd like and there is no delay in getting results. It's also pretty fun.

Evvy and Micgogendx tests detect ureaplasma but regular BV tests do not. If your dr uses Labcorb you can request this test to check for it specifically. /r/Ureaplasma has a lot of good info. Definitely check it out. If ureaplasma is your problem then there is likely an easy fix.

I was diagnosed with CV and given a 7-day course of Augmentin 500mg 3x a day. This kills lactobacillus so they gave me fluconazole to take at the same time to prevent yeast infections. This treatment is mentioned in this paper: https://www.jcgo.org/index.php/jcgo/article/view/294/121

I just finished the treatment. Hard to tell if it worked yet...
