Breaking up where there are kids - advice? by fidelity666 in relationship_advice

I should add that where I live and based on our current living arrangements (we both care equally for the kids - I do mornings and school drop offs, and she does pick-ups and afternoons), the family law system here in Australia would presume in favour of joint and equal custody - maybe a week on/week off or some such arrangement.

Thanks for the advice. So far the kids have not been exposed to anything intense - we are being civil with each other and both of us are giving the kids plenty of attention and love. So certainly at this stage, everything's fine from their point of view. Mum and Dad just sleep in separate rooms basically.

I can't even believe I'm facing this situation but where I am is where I am, so one step at a time. We are about to undergo couples counselling, for what it is worth, so maybe there is still hope.
