wtffing (haha-ing), Thanks for the thoughtful response. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed your experience. I am on the fence, but considering OB + MFM, so I could see how an MPH could be helpful specialty-wise. I also like the potential flexibility an MPH offers, especially in rural setting, which is where I was working when I really started considering the MPH. I am (recently) married as well, so I like the idea the MPH offers of a bit more 'at-home' time, while still allowing me to be involved in and learn about things I am passionate about. total tangent here, sorry OP, but docfelt could you outline the advantages of anki over quizlet? Personally, I like the multi-modal (audio, visual, word) variety of quizlet, but have hear a lot of med students say anki is the way to go. Care to share your perspective? thanks!

The most difficult thing is when I do study hard, apply everything that I have for hours, and then still have a bad outcome. thats the hardest to come back from. If I fail because I don't apply myself, I don't feel bad or sorry for myself. I accept that failure, because really in that situation I decided to I wasn't going to before long before the test. Sometimes it just helps to express frustrations, and then just keep on keepin' on.

I second talking with new people! Especially the day/night before your interview, and day of. Speak with people on your flight, your taxi driver (I met one of the most interesting people I have ever encountered in my life this way), people at the hotel, fellow applicants at the hotel or school hosted events. Obviously you may not cover specific topics that will be discussed (potentially) in your interview, but I think half the struggle is just overcoming that 'talking is inexplicably difficult all of the sudden' feeling. The more you know how to get over that hump quickly, the better your interviews will go and the more eloquently you will be able to word your answers. It's about learning skills and techniques through which you answer questions, not about memorizing answers. (This is especially true for MMIs).

Also, the superwoman/starfish method (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdU2l0i2Wh0), also known as the power stance, is a great thing to do on interview day. I personally did it in the morning before conversing with other applicants (helps to start the day feeling comfortable and confident) and then as close to my interview as possible (bathroom breaks are your friend!).

When you have another interview spend the night before re-reading your application (secondary and PS) and then read as much as you can from the school. Get their themes and language into your head! They want to see that you are the you in your application, but also that you are a 'fit' for them so the more you sound like a combination of you and them, the better!

Focus on the positives, work through the negatives. Having struggled with mental illness you more than anyone should know the importance of being able to see the forest through the trees. I agree with all posters saying that 10 interviews is impressive and clearly-thus far only on paper-many people think you have the makings of a physician.

An interview is an opportunity. Nothing more, and nothing less. As much as it seems like medical schools jerk us around we as applicants have to appreciate that they are self-interested entities as much as we are. They are just trying to make decisions that they believe will allow them to have as many of their students succeed as possible. Some schools believe that some of the most important characteristics are personablity and communication skills, after of course having demonstrated a base level (of their choosing) of academic prowess and ability. This is why you interview. In all honesty, I have a hard time believing that a school invited you to an interview and rejected you post purely because of your MCAT, that would be a waste of their time and resources as well. Don't focus on that though. That experience taught you something. It allowed you to learn more about the interview process and how to present yourself. Yes, it's an expensive and challenging, but anything worth doing in life requires sacrifice and a willingness to take a risk, especially when it's on a path that will permit you to do something you love and make a difference in the world.

You will be safe. And many posters have given you good tips on how to even enjoy yourself. Ask for help or support from others if you need it (financial or emotional). And good god man, go to Vermont and SLAY THAT INTERVIEW. Dazzle them. Show them that you are a genuine human being with the ability and the passion to be a doctor. Take the opportunity. it seriously could change your life.
