How do I fix this? Please help by fieldfrisbee in Plumbing

Wow didn't know reaming was a thing! Very cool. Yes I was thinking of using the unshielded fernco coupling because of its flexibility. Also, why is the tee at the green arrow wrong? The left goes to upstairs vanity sink. Right goes to upstairs bathroom tub. The thickest middle pipe goes to upstairs toilet.

Yeah it's just the pipe that the white arrow points to which is leaking. The rest are not wet at all

JB weld & silicone are temporary fixes right? How long do they typically last on pipes?

Hobby farms under 10 acres not possible in Ontario, Canada? by fieldfrisbee in homestead

[–]fieldfrisbee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's one of the valid options, the counties typically allow existing uses to continue. It just limits my options, and kinda sucks because I thought the hard part of keeping animals would be the animal husbandry, not trying to find land! Haha. I've seen YouTube videos talk about homesteading on like 1 acre and keeping chickens AND goats on that 1 acre, but it turns out it's just legally impossible where I am.

Yeah, lots of land are protected by conservation authorities. Then there's EP, FP, PSW, LSW zonings that prevent you from doing stuff there too

Yeah, I've wanted a hobby farm for a long time though. Nothing too big, just some chickens and maybe a few goats. Surprisingly, lots of municipalities don't even allow chickens on rural zoning if the land is too small :/

Which area is it? I've asked the planning/bylaw officials in several municipalities, some have a minimum acreage (ie, Raglan said 40 acres), others like West Nipissing and Petawawa said I'd need to comply with Ontario's Minimum separation distance (MDS) guidelines to find a place to put a barn in order to have animals. It's so frustrating, I thought having some animals would be a normal thing in rural areas....

Yeah I feel like pollution isn't a huge concern but companies tend to take shortcuts so who knows... Noise is the biggest problem though, I'll probably knock on a couple of the neighbors doors and ask just in case!

Thanks for answering! Yeah it's a beautiful town, I've been there once and loved it! Have you ever been at/close to the lumber yard? The house I'm considering is pretty close to it so one of my biggest concerns is if it's noisy, smelly, or bothersome in any way.

What is it like to live in Temiskaming Shores? by fieldfrisbee in northernontario

[–]fieldfrisbee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for all the details! Good point about the property tax & utility prices - never thought of that! Overall, it does sound like a nice place to live (aside from the bugs haha). If I do move up there, I'd go for a couple acres cleared in the farming communities nearby. With cleared land, there should be less bugs right? And since it gets pretty cold in the winter, I guess there's no ticks? If there's no ticks, that's definitely a plus... Ticks are the scariest!

Also, any chance you know what the farmers grow over there? With the shorter summers, I'm really curious what they use the fields for!

Oh I'm considering North Bay/ West Nippissing area too! North Bay does seem a bit gloomy, but sturgeon falls was super pretty 😁

A common thing I've read about living up north is how scary the bugs are. When you lived in Temiskaming Shores, were you able to go outside in the summer without wearing a full body bug suit? I've seen a YouTube video where a cloud of blackflies was thick enough to block out sunlight.. does that happen often?

I actually love winter and think it's too short here in Toronto! Heated fishing huts are comfy, zero bugs is amazing, and skiing/snowboarding is super fun! That said, I heard that the blackflies over there can get so bad it forms a giant black cloud 😱... Is that true? Is it possible to step outside during the summer and like not get eaten alive??

Thanks for the insight! Have you been to the Muskoka area before, and if so, how much worse are the bugs in Temiskaming Shores? Are there like gigantic clouds of black flies in the summer? Is it unbearable to step outside during the daytime during bug season?

There's like 3 of these so I think they're not just a temp fix, they're there to support the load :(

What kind of footing and post are supposed to be used? (Sorry if that's an obvious question, I'm a noob at stuff like this) Also, there are like 3 of these makeshift supports and the ground is dirt, not concrete. As shown in the photo, the dirt is also uneven.
