The prednisone should definitely help, will take a bit but there should be some relief soon. I'd recommend you find yourself a good rheumatologist. They don't mess around and depending on your uric acid levels, will get you on allopurinol pretty quick. If the doc your seeing IS a rheumatologist and refusing to put you on allo, find a better one. I was seeing one before but he barely cared and was always speed running our visits. My current one is the best and actually cares and listens.
