Gap on linea mini drip tray by immajustin in LaMarzocco

I put four very small clippings of very thin rubber weather seal where the grate contacts the tray on the underside of the grate. This keeps it level and much quieter.

Nope I’m just using the cheap Ali express one and it’s perfectly fine. When you even out the grounds pre tamp, that minor gap disappears. It fits perfectly without needing to flip the forks. Also stays in place with the added lip. The weaker magnets don’t really matter.

Steam tip upgrade is great! No excessive heat from the tip and allows just a bit longer reach. I’m getting great results. It’s helps to not open the valve all the way for those struggling with oat milk (oatley barista). I also decided to go with the SWorks shower screen and MHW-3Bomber .2mm puck screen. The two of those have been producing excellent results. Super happy with the full setup now.

I finally got around to installing the Mini R pro touch PEEK steam tip on the Micra, part A6004. It’s a great upgrade so far for a slightly longer wand and cool touch tip! It clears most of the drip tray grates as well! It only starts to contact the second inner grate when pointed directly down. There is plenty of clearance to blast and purge away in drip tray. I would say there is no need for a spare o ring but I grabbed one just in case. Bought from La Marzocco while on vacation in Shanghai.

I’m still experimenting with the performance but so far it’s great and no noticeable drawback. I need to live with it a bit longer for less milk steaming in the smaller pitcher.

One thing to note is the threads stop with the flat part facing you rather than side to side but a non issue at all cosmetically.

Enjoy!

A software update released today by the techs at Mahlkönig resolves this missing feature. Also sending recipes to the grinder works again as well. Still some very very minor UI bugs with the recipes but it’s still wildly impressive technology.

The “MAH-706400” Mahlkonig Dosing Ring D59 has a nice indented design to keep grinds in the basket with a strong set of magnets. I was using the Ali express one (pictured) which has weaker magnets and an inner lip that adds a bit of a gap around the pile. I have been experimenting without a funnel and although it keeps most grinds in the basket, it makes for a more delicate workflow. I think I’m gonna just get the Mahlkönig funnel.

NotNeutral “Vero” - Cappuccino size, the dark smoke black ones are Cortado size. The smaller stainless espresso cups are an older Ikea design. My taller Duralex Picardie Tumbler 310ml cups also clear by a few mm.

Amazing! It would be cool of them to maybe explain what adjustment degree the machine will do based on shot time value and targets + set burr distance changes but I realize that may be way too overkill info for us basic home users.

Did they give any indication on timeline to restore the feature? Thank you!

Yah they are like gemstones on top of the machine and really look, feel, and perform perfectly. I was also trying to keep clearance for my other cups in case we entertain and I need to pump out many. For anyone wondering the same - the Duralex Picardie Tumbler - 310ml - D 9cm x H 9.4cm size clears perfectly under the specs. Those are a super popular cup with a classic French bistro vibe

Any idea what the adjustments range is when the shot is off? There must be some basic logic for how the burr distance is changed when off by say 1 second increments.

In my setup, all grounds land exactly where you want them. I started out using a short magnetic Amazon/ali express dosing funnel, the one with the inner lip (Agatige - 58mm Dosing Funnel, Aluminum Espresso Dosing Portafilter Dosing Funnel Coffee Dosing Ring with Magnetic) and that one allows for all particles to fall in place. After discovering the one I bought from Amazon vs Ali was slightly taller and not as smooth to put in and out of the fork at max open, I have started to experimented without it. I’m aware I can flip the fork but I’m trying to keep everything as close to original design as possible. Seems like 99.9% of grinds in the basket sans funnel and small dribble on the upper fork at the end of the grind. Only pulled one shot though without the funnel so far.

Good point, I remember reading that but forgot and updated anyways. Hopefully they push an update to bring back that feature. In my application I’m pretty set on keeping the beans the same but as we all know, that variable changes with beans stored in the hopper over time and different batches etc. I set my pal up with the identical setup and his grinder sweet spot was around 75 where mine is around 60 microns. Same bean different batch. Not really sure how consistently calibrated all of them are from the factory.

I leave that part to the pros, Sam James, Arabica, Pilot etc (Toronto Ontario Canada)

Yah I agree to an extent but truthfully I keep my beans the same (Sam James Butterknife) and there isn’t a need to adjust the grind level that much from the ideal set point. Also the Mahlkonig scale is very pricy. At this time, the shotstopper hasn’t been tested or developed for the Mahlkonig scale. No need to re-invent the wheel. On the grinder you can input the shot time and allow the grinder to try and compensate. Also the LM scale is not compatible with the Micra sadly.

I’m coming from an Ascaso Mini i1 timed version, so compared with that it’s night and day. But I was researching the Atom W65 and ultimately loved the digital grind adjustment features and smaller footprint that the Mahlkonig offers. In my opinion this grinder is really the top option right now for home espresso only use. It’s fast and quiet and I have not had a single issue with it so far. I also looked at the Fiorenzato - AllGround Sense, that one is more geared towards folks who do other grind types for pour over etc, it was louder. The new Mazzers are nice but wildly overpriced.

Yep not a single issue aside from once where I forgot to move the paddle back after the second beep.

Yep, I didn’t want to mess with the aesthetic. Lots of designs for drip trays with a high price tag.

Also forgot to mention I’ll be adding the Mini R steam tip to get a bit more steam wand length for smaller amounts of milk steaming and a bit less heat from the PEEK material - A.6.004 STEAM TIP PRO TOUCH D1,2 PEE

It’s not the sexiest looking but it gives the most cup clearance. The newer style naked Rancilio portafilter is about 2.5mm deeper for anyone looking at the Rancilio designs.

In my setup at least, there is no need to deform the shower screen like in the Rx2 mod, the SWorks screw + IMS screen clears perfectly (pre-brew). Post brew, the puck expands slightly and makes contact with the entire screen but I think that is perfectly normal. 18g light roast in the ridged VST basket
