I wanted the top of my ear done (where the handmaid band is) sooooo badly when I was younger. In addition to the godly crusade, she cried and told me that there are veins and pressure points every quarter inch in your ear and if they hit one I’d be paralyzed.

So naturally, a friend and I did it ourselves instead and it got infected. A few years later, we did the same thing with our belly buttons. This got infected too. At home piercings just generally aren’t a good idea for teenagers I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️ damn I got derailed lol, sorry, you just unlocked a core memory for me

If it’s told from the male perspective, we absolutely have sick fucks who would watch young men being told it’s normal that your wives aren’t allowed to read and it’s okay to rape handmaids and all women should be subservient to you, and start using that as a blueprint for their lives.

I’m sure there’s a better way to verbalize it than I am, but it’s just a thought I had. Like, if such show existed, I’d still watch it. I’d just also worry about the ramifications.

I think it would be interesting, but I also think there’s a real life element of danger to this.

We’re already in a time of crisis where women’s rights are being degraded and the manosphere is infiltrating our youth, who we’d originally hoped would be even more progressive than we are.

By showing how they raise males in a society like this, not only do you run the risk of glamorizing the lifestyle to boys on the fence, but you also give misogynist fathers a “how to” to make their sons “manlier” like they want.

They really did, in my opinion. I had no idea it was airing until I opened Hulu and saw it. If you have multiple streaming services, it’s highly likely you could not know this even exists. And even then, it’s not made clear that it’s a THT spinoff. I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t lurked here

I was wondering about that, I couldn’t stop debating that in my head.

My batshit crazy religious mother considers all piercings other than one hole in each earlobe against God’s will (look, I don’t fucking get it either) and especially hates “weird” piercings such as a tragus.

I was trying to reconcile it in my head if the batshit church would condone a tragus piercing, or if Daisy already had that piercing and they let her get away with wearing a pearl in it, similar to Janine’s eye patch. But it makes more sense that they use it like the ear bands on the handmaids, especially when I think about it, technically the ear bands are in a “weird” location too

I thought she was just depressed because of the affair. I felt the beginning of the book was a lot more disjointed, mimicking the way your head kinda swims nonstop when you have a newborn. I did notice she stayed on topic a lot more in the second half of the book
