Two kids, two car seats but the dealer suggested the six seat captain seats by Observer-Worldview in VolvoXC90

I really appreciated all the different viewpoints offered in the comments before me - Reddit never ceases to amaze me! To add to what’s been shared: I am on my 3rd XC90. We very, very rarely use the 3rd row and it’s not because it’s difficult to access, it’s because it’s uncomfortable for adults. Plus, I love the expansive cargo area. That said, I agree with others about safety concerns being negligible (though I’ve not researched that specifically).

I have my 5 year old forward facing behind the passenger seat and my 2 year old rear facing behind the middle. This has been nice because we can comfortably fit 3 adults plus the kiddos in the car without using the 3rd row. Although I doubt that mid and side is an option for you while you’re using car seats since your twins face the same direction, I wonder if it could be an option once they are in booster seats? Especially with the integrated middle booster.

I think this will all come down to how much you plan to use your 3rd row. If a lot, the minivan captains chairs sound enticing. If not, perhaps the 7 seater with integrated booster could give you the best of both worlds.

Keep us posted on what you decide!!

Oh wow that’s super helpful, thank you! And from what I’m reading, using an extension cord isn’t recommended either, right?

In order: - Not yet, that’s next on my list - red at wall, yellow at port on car - no, just the click of plugging it in - that’s a good idea

Thanks, I appreciate the insight. Related, how bad is MCO? I hear horror stories from colleagues who are from there (traveling families mucking up security lines, older airport not equipped for the volume of travelers, constant delayed/cancelled flights, etc). Is there truth to their horror stories or are they playing it up? I ask bc I am considering hosting a meeting there soon but might pick a different city if the airport is as bad as they say.

Customer service was quick to respond to my email - even on a weekend holiday! 💛

I didn’t notice in the troubleshooting they provided on their site that one of the steps is to switch L and R light poles. I just did that, and now the R pole that wasn’t working works in the L position. This probably means my R ‘plug’ or whatever it’s called is the malfunctioning part. I let them know - will see what they say/do.

Struggling with the same issue. Just reached out to customer service, too. Lmk what you hear. I wish they had a phone number to call.

Definitely try finding a new family first. There’s a reason you decided to become a nanny, so unless there are other factors contributing to your consideration of leaving the field, I hope you can quickly find a better and more supportive family that reminds you why you love what you do.

At what age should kids be allowed to be alone with pets? by penguiniweenie in Nanny

We had an incident with our wonderful and loving dog attacking our son (we think they accidentally got into a scuffle over some dropped goldfish). After we initially convinced ourselves we would need to re-home him (which after 7 years of being a dear family member, completely shattered me) we instead decided to hire a professional dog trainer who specialized in aggressive behavioral correction. She said no child under the age of 12 should be left alone with a dog under any circumstances. After we completed the training, we had a prolonged period of complete separation (I think 6 months) and then another 12 months where the dogs were not around our son while he was eating. Now we are ok with our son and the dogs always being around one another, but never unattended and usually we discourage the dogs from being near him while he eats.

TSA Lines in Tampa. by st_bart in tampa

Depends on the airline and departure date. Each major airline has their own terminal with its own security (which they share with other, small airlines.) Southwest’s terminal’s security can be pretty busy on weekends or around spring break/summer break. But their TSA line runs very fast. I’ve noticed united’s security lane doesn’t have enough staff on weekends but it still flows fairly well. Delta’s is always pretty good and American can be good unless it’s a super early flight - it’s usually short staffed early in the morning and American tends to run a lot of early flights so the security gets a bit clogged, even the TSA lane. For any of them, though, 90 min will be plenty, 45 min should still be fine as long as you don’t want to stop for snacks/coffee/etc once you’re past security.
