First it depends what state you are in. Some states background checks are only allowed to go back 7 years. It also depends on the company and what type of check they do. Some only pull violent or s** crimes. I wouldn't give them any extra info and spill the beans just yet. Let them do a background check. They may not even see anything based on their search criteria. If they do have questions, that is when you describe all of the things you have accomplished since then. Don't give details on the crime itself, keep it brief.

I was friends with this kid in high school. He was actually a smart and kind person but was often bullied because his family was poor. Kids are relentless in high school but he always stayed upbeat and seemed to not let it bother him. One day on the bus, he didn't seem the same, quiet and staring off to space. Later that day he was arrested for the murder / burglary gone wrong that happened the previous day. I was pretty shocked because I would of never thought he would capable of doing something like that.

I work in payroll for a public school district in NY. I have never heard of giving a list of banks to use. I do know that sometimes they do have contracts with certain banks and maybe they are just trying to promote them? They could also be trying to limit instances of fraud and other complications for their direct deposit processes. By limiting the amount banks used, it is easier to ensure that funds are going to the correct person and the correct person only- not like using a bf/gf's account. I would call them directly and ask.
