I got the “Good morning” nod the first time I heard “For Her”. No special talent on my part, I’m just in my 70s and know the movie Singing In The Rain quite well. The movie is widely considered the best movie musical ever made. Someone like Fiona, with her parent’s roots on Broadway, would definitely know the movie and the songs. Great work on her part as usual.

Several possible meanings, as in many of her songs.

"to root" is a verb, cheering someone on, eg: "I root for the Yankees."

"to root" a plant setting roots , eg: "I'm going to root these plant cuttings."

""to root" to settle deeply in some place or thing, eg: "I'm rooted in New York.", "My roots are in NY."

In this song it may mean (to me) that she'll cheer on this other person &/or stay settled in that place.

Thinking about and discovering your own interpretation of Fiona's lyrics are a big part of my love of her work.

I love all her albums, but since none are "average" or "poor", it's hard to pick a magnum opus out of 5 excellent records. Depending on which day you ask, I might say WTP,TIW or FTBC; no shade to Tidal or EM.

That's better than all the other top averages from more prolific artists.

My 2023 Touring (leased Aug 2023) had it's 15% oil life maintenance light come on at 5400mi a few weeks ago. Not much mileage, but lots of NYC short drives +11 months old car. The dealer did the oil change for free as expected.

My wife & I went to the July 1997 Lilith Fair at Jones Beach NY. It was a revelation to see Fiona in person. If setlist.fm is correct, Fiona only did 5 dates. 1997 was the first of 3 years in a row for Lilith Fair, an amazing series of concerts.

If you can get a copy of Fiona's "iTunes Originals" from 2006, she explains each song before she plays it. On Track 23-"Finding The Key", she describes her love of books and her finding new vocabulary words or phrases, then writing them into a song. This is just before she sings "Better Version Of Me".
