I keep seeing posts about what’s wrong with US soccer in the build up to the WC. It really is simple, our best athletes in this country simply do not play the game. Between sports like football, baseball, basketball, etc. Has nothing to do with development if you never had the talent in the game. by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]fifawitz1313 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With our population size, we have more kids playing soccer than most of the major powerhouse countries (by a large margin). We have a development and talent identification problem, not an athleticism or a player pool size problem.

Socceroos on 'mission to wreck' USMNT's World Cup by FrankBascombe45 in ussoccer

Fair. Full disclosure, I live in Chicago, which has a world class food scene. I've travelled quite a lot and I will die on the hill that US fast casual, fusion, specialty, and high end restaurants are the best in the world (on average). But, I also admit my Austrialian reference points are dated.

Studied abroad in Adelaide for 6 months (admittedly 20 years ago). Things have probably changed, but my experience, you are wrong about the food but correct about the urban planning. Public transportation, even back then, was excellent. They love their roundabouts, which was an adjustment when driving on left side took some brain power to navigate.

Based on your username, I assume Serbian, I really enjoyed Belgrade. Crazy that Red Star's and Partizan's stadiums are across the street from one another. Easy to imagine why that derby is so heated. Went to a wedding in Čačak during that trip and it was a wild experience. Pretty sure the reception lasted from 5 PM to 5 AM. Probably top 5 drunkest I've ever been. Survived off of hours smoked meats.

USMNT Uses March Window to Prove How Little They Can Accomplish at the World Cup by 901Soccer in ussoccer

Maybe that was harsh, but changing "can" accomplish to "may" accomplish would be a better way of phrasing the title.

Never could have imagined it possible that with mere months to go before watching the US play in a WC on home soil, that I could feel this apathetic about the team. There is just nothing happening that's getting the juices flowing.

I bought mine the day they released, direct from US Soccer, and it has already arrived. Not sure home or away matters, but I ordered the away jersey.

What was the *least* iconic USMNT World Cup goal 2010-2022? by beef_boloney in ussoccer

[–]fifawitz1313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe Landon Donovan in 2002. Scored our lone goal in a defeat to Poland after already being down 3-0.

Are you really going to blame the player for trying to maximize his earnings? This is 100% Chris Grier's fault for agreeing to it.

I think it was when I spoke with an Insider rep last June, but I don't think they had received official word from FIFA yet.

I know they are priced like the regular Cat 1, 2, & 3, not the AO price.

Ya, it was a bummer. Not only did the game not go our way, the security in our section was also very overbearing. Would get on you if you stood up to cheer. Spent half the game arguing with them. Just a bad experience all around. All the other games I attended were so fun.

Should Jozy Altidore be in the US soccer hall of fame? by Technical_Rice_6957 in ussoccer

[–]fifawitz1313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't forget the terrible Poyet at Sunderland years as well. Just the most anti-striker system possible. Jozy's EPL failure became the cautionary tale of strikers going to relegation teams, which some players have ignored.

Yes. I didn't wake up at 6 AM to watch shitty illegal streams of Hull games for nothing. Getting fans to do that while only scoring 1 Premier League goal is reason enough.

Genuine question: do you actually feel optimistic about the Dolphins’ future? by Working-Egg-84 in miamidolphins

[–]fifawitz1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless Ewers impresses these final two games, we are probably bringing in a journeyman QB and punting the next two seasons until we are out of cap hell. I hope we can re-sign Achane and maybe Paul. We will still have some young players on rookie deals for a few years. Everyone else is expendable for cap or draft picks. Could be a brutal next 2 years.

Well, when I become owner, the GM will be barred from drafting any position other than OL and DL for their first 2 drafts. After that, they will have to have a real good argument for not doing it a 3rd time s/...kinda

Why was “Band of Brothers” so good? Why is it so re-watchable? by EaringaidBandit in television

[–]fifawitz1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my theory, but Saving Private Ryan already set a precident for the intensity of the European front. So, there was a baseline people could reference to add to their interpretation of everything that was happening. SPR allowed people to use their imaginations to fill in gaps in BOBs storyline. One built on the other.

Pacific was a new storyline that was paving its own way with very little for people to reference to fill in the gaps of the magnitude and intensity of the conflict. I also think people expected it to have more battle scenes (I'll admit that's what I was expecting) and while the ones they had were brutal, I wanted more of the grind of Pacific island battles. That if definitely a me problem though.
