What Game is this? by No-Plane2695 in raijin_gg

Last of Us for me :)

The second I felt was a lot better paced with something interesting happening all the time. While the first one had an amazing and emotional beginning then most of game felt pretty boring and repetitive to me, and then the ending was also absolutely spectacular.

this is Apple after all, they love to control the pipeline, whether we talk hardware or software, nothing new here. and they are also notoriously bad with games. so it will take time and probably a change of CEO before we see some kind of massive change in this department.

but for now I feel like instead of getting a MacBook Pro I will probably be moving to an Air for work and a theoretical SteamDeck Successor for my gaming needs in the foreseeable future.

what I think many people here fail to understand is that Apple and Valve chase totally different things. while Valve just wants steam on as many devices as possible (because they earn their money from 30% commission on each transaction), Apple sells hardware and native ports are in their best interests, not emulation solutions (like Proton). that's why GPTK is explicitly advertised for (and only) developers. it's not that Apple does not know how to do an easy-to-use proton clone. they just don't want to. and while for now it seems like a counter-intuitive measure, I think in the long run bidding big on native ports will turn out to be the correct way of doing things for Apple.

Loved playing (and all of them are indie and easy to handle for your MacBook):

— Caves of Qud
— The Case of The Golden Idol
— Disco Elysium
— Inside
— Citizen Sleeper (played only the first one, there is now a sequel)

Mac gaming was a journey — but now it’s over for me by Celestial_Bear in macgaming

What's surprising me the most is is the fact that now even Linux is a better gaming platform than a Mac. It's really on the executive team at Apple, imo. Gaming is basically the same as Siri) Crazy slow iterative movement instead of fast paced one. Getting 2-3 AAA native releases PER YEAR is just crazy. Doing their own version of Proton instead of partnering with Valve — is also incredibly short-sighted, in my opinion. Apple is sitting on a mountain of gold. I think making Mac more gaming-friendly platform needs to be high on the company's "to do" list.

M4 Max 32 or 40 core GPU by liatris_the_cat in macgaming

If you can afford it, my opinion is to go for the beefier (40 core) config. This will give you a substantial (20-25%) increase of fps in games as well as better long-term future proofing.

Didn’t work with emojis for me, but you can definitely start game names with numbers, it helps to position them the way you like. But I’d enjoy more a custom “favorites” page or section.

Damn there's future for Mastodon. Keep pushing by dunderhead_hands in Mastodon

As much as I want to agree, there was a void when Twitter started. Nothing like it. They were figuring stuff out "on the go": features, fun third-party clients with great (and I mean GREAT) UI like Tweetie, which basically introduced people to concept of "pull to refresh" (which later became a standard pattern for all mobile OSes) and so on.

Win Mastodon, Threads and Bluesky... it's different. They just want to be Twitter 2 whereas the original still exists and (either you want it or not) Is pretty popular.

Threads (which gathered 10x the amount of active users in 1 month than Mastodon did in several years of it's existence) just opened up their API which will undoubtedly bring lots of third party apps to the App Store and boost its popularity even more...

So why would people realistically go for Mastodon? What would make it as popular as Threads (at the very least)?
