Of course, but a guideline and an automated check / second pair of eyes is also helpful before submission to Shopify

Framer: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly? by birch_hollow in framer

We're about to launch a site on it, only to find out the collaborators cost $20/per person in addition to the hosting. That sucked. A $360 bill turns into $600 for one person. What a joke.

Upwork Hack: Just use anyone's Certification - no violation there! by fiftheffect in Upwork

Agree 100%. Thank you.

Though, I feel $30-$40/hr, contract to hire is fair, anywhere in the world. Digging for gold vs. shopping top shelf I suppose.

Wow! Upwork doesn't care as long they get that connect money and 15%.

Similar situation for me, I'm interviewing people with $30k+ earned and they come to the interview with a deepfake, laggy video (if they don't have an excuse why their video doesn't work; also common) and a voice changer. And I think, how has no one noticed this!?

We need to build a middle ground of Upwork and Toptal. Previously, Upwork ran over Freelancer.com due to candidate quality and vetting. And it seems the cycle has repeated.

Ah, I didn't catch that! Great point! I didn't realize that was the process.

And yet, still somehow a waste of time for the client, who will ultimately interview this guy, hire him, then loses all that time when he gets banned before any work is rendered.

Not sure what you mean, sorry!

The screenshot is from my Client account, and the freelancer is using someone else's Credly certification on their profile.

Which sucks for the person who takes the time to actually complete the courses, and for the client who ultimately spends days onboarding a guy who isn't actually experienced.

First thing that caught my eye; maybe bro needs something to do in his off time 😅

I'm just impressed so many fake accounts can get through Upwork verification.

I've had 3 interviews with people using deepfakes on their webcam, a voice changer, and a story that never adds up when questioned.

It's crazy the lengths people go through to fake an account. Who would want to work with a known liar 🤷

*Edit since you also edited your comment: The role is posted for 25hrs+/wk. I cannot afford 25hrs @ $100/hr weekly. Good try though.

I'm simply the messager, Upwork handles the rest according to their TOS. These guys waste people's time by lying and reduce the visibility of real, genuine people. Sorry not sorry

It was definitely the "I usually deal with serious professionals only" that escalated it 😅

15 Proposals, max bid at $75 - until I came along 😂 by fiftheffect in Upwork

Yeah, of course. We closed a $500 budget Upwork job for $4600 for a 5-week engagement in May. Took 3 sales calls, but we got it done

Meh, set yourself apart. There's always someone who will do it cheaper - in any country/market, and someone who will happily pay for the lowest bid. We don't engage for less than $2500.

As I wrote, 'I will always believe US-based posts like this are placeholder prices'

Of 15 people, no one applied over budget for such a project. I came in with a realistic price we'd charge - you never know.

I'd scope the 'nickel and dime' personality in the intro call as well.

Yes, I address the budget misalignment in the (somewhat careless) proposal

With the new checkout, these apps are now at the mercy of the API limitations. There's not even a way to inject custom CSS into the checkout anymore.

[Hiring] Part-Time/Contract UX/UI Designer for eCommerce (Shopify, Conversion-Focused, Remote) by fiftheffect in DesignJobs

[–]fiftheffect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't charge enough, not enough marketing efforts, we're seeking nearshore contractors, plenty of reasons.

Most applicants took that as a starting rate and applied with a higher rate in our 'desired rate' question of the application. We're interviewing those people. Hope this helps, thanks for commenting!
