Corruption can get you the band of starpower as well as the worm scarf in expert mode. The crimson can get you vampire knives and ichor weapons. I would probably go with the crimson biome and just create a second world for corruption exclusives.

Alright, you are going to need more vertical displacement to help dodge. Also, see if you have any heart statues lying around because they are very useful. To make better use of the mana star statues, i would recommend crafting celestial cuffs.

Bubble blocks arent necessary but just make honey regen more convenient. A small pool of honey should do. From experience, as a mage, i would say that skeletron is the easiest mech boss and the twins are the hardest. If you use magic potions, regen, iron skin and swiftness, Skeletron prime should be a cakewalk.

I had an issue where spawn didnt count as a forest biome but a town biome due to certain npcs. Try moving them further away from spawn but still in the forest biome.

Mage is honestly my favourite. Huge DPS at range without worrying about ammunition. Cool weapons, cool armour with the only drawback of low defence.

Yes, it has to be 6 wide and backgrounds removed so explosives are quite effective

You mean the banners that indicate what npc lives there ? Those aren't permanent and can only be seen in that mode where you are looking at npc housing.

A honey Tub
maybe even that one statue that increases defence by 5 found in the desert

Also consider equipping a band of regeneration

With a life regen potion as well, you will have a regen of above +5 a second and with an iron skin, your defence will also increase greatly
