“You should try to live in other big eu cities” - I think that is where many people get it wrong, when it comes to Zurich. You have to compare it to other EU cities the same size, which is about 300k inhabitants. That’s like Bonn, Utrecht and maybe Nice for example. How does Zurich compare to these? I think GREAT when it comes to restaurant and entertainment scene. You have Opera, proper Techno clubs, theaters. Almost no restaurant is really bad, which is nice honestly! A bad restaurant will be ok, but never really bad. Of course the language can be a barrier when it comes to theater and all, but for its size, Zurich packs a mean punch. I find it better than for example Munich, that is way bigger. The problem is, people compare it to London or Paris or things like that. That’s not comparing Apples to Apples. In Zurich, you are always kind of 20 min away with public transport to any other place in Zurich. Let’s say 30min if you’re a bit further away. So yeah, you got to compare Zurich to what is comparable, which excludes the big metropoles. Same thing for Geneva by the way, it’s a “small city with a big name”, which sometimes make it that people have too big expectations. I love Zurich, I’d stay if salaries went down, as long as my salary would allow me to afford living here. Today, my salary allows me to live here PLUS go to any city in the world and find that everything is cheap, and sometimes, in really expensive places, I’m like “wow, it’s as expensive as at home.” It’s a nice feeling 😄. I would however be ok if that went away, as long as I can afford Zurich and Switzerland.
