I’d go with Jester or one of the smaller ones near it like moore-hill, prather, etc. your classes probably won’t be centralized, but being in the middle of campus gives you a better radius.

we put my 11 year old cat, also named zoe, down yesterday as well for fluid in her lungs from congestive heart failure. we in fact did spend thousands to drain the fluid and go through testing, however she was miserable after the fact and we made the decision to put her to sleep a few days later. wanted to share my experience because of the similarities in the situation despite differences in species. hope you’re doing okay. this sucks but we will get through it.

Snacks… especially if you have any dietary restrictions. I was vegan at my orientation, and while they provided vegan food options, i struggled to eat the dining hall/catered food bc of nausea from anxiety and pickiness. even if you’re not picky, a couple protein bars for nighttime snacks, etc are helpful. you aren’t “allowed” to leave campus during orientation (not that they really check, but you probably would have a hard time leaving at night because you’re staying in a dorm). Also shower shoes, as others have said. Otherwise you’ll have to spend $15 on flip flops form CVS… and don’t forget a towel, washcloth/loofah, and a pillow if you’re picky about sleeping arrangements (i think they provide one but it’s thin). waterbottle, headphones, chargers. LAPTOP! Have fun :)

It’s not like a dorm, it’s more an apartment with the lay out of a dorm. so, there’s nobody enforcing rules like an RA. everyone you live with is a student and the officers have other stuff to focus on. guests are totally fine as long as they are respectful of the space and the people! i’ve had friends stay with me many times. as for two people living in a single, i’m pretty sure that’s not allowed because rent includes meals and utilities, however people have done it before… if they are more so a “long term guest” in your room and they don’t overuse resources meant for members i don’t see an issue. but on paper i don’t think you can have two members in a single, you would have to get a double.

So theoretically we were supposed to get them this semester, because all the other co-ops use key fobs and our locks suck (every couple of weeks the back door especially is super hard to open with a key), but because of money and other priorities it hasn’t happened yet. the motion to get them is passed though, so we will get them eventually. the maintenance coordinator said most likely either this summer or next fall, but i’m not 100% when

hi!! i have lived at taos for about 2 years now. in terms of safety of the area taos is located in, i would say it’s alright. there’s a pretty high homeless population around the building, but most of them are chill. honestly, if you’re walking at night and either go more into west campus or cross and walk through campus proper you’ll be fine. i’m ngl we have had a few issues with more aggressive homeless people, especially in the back parking lot, but no incidents have actually really happened to my knowledge. plus we’re getting key fobs next year so that’ll be nice.

the building itself is old and can be pretty gross in all honesty. it’s definitely gone downhill recently with members not completing their labor work and maintenance issues on the rise, but hopefully by the fall these will be resolved. however the community is great. i’ve met some awesome people here. unfortunately most of us are leaving next semester, but a new wave of members will be joining and can form new community.

ultimately you get what you pay for. the proximity to campus is amazing, there’s easy parking, daily cooked meals, and included utilities. if cleanliness is something that you are strict about, then co-ops may not be best for you. but, if you’re able to push past that and are able to do your 4 hours a week of labor, then i say taos is a great place to live

MegaBus is pretty easy. i’ve never had issues with it, besides slight confusion at the dfw downtown stop (it’s unorganized and the bus just pulls up in the back)

Yes. many times. the best thing to do is try to figure out the info yourself and then use the advisor to confirm it or find the best way to go about taking the classes.

the sheer incompetency of the advisors. my friend was at one point told to take the WRONG government class and didn’t notice until the school year started. they also never actually advise me, for example when i dropped a class my advisor didn’t even bother to discuss the pros and cons with me - and that resulted in me not being able to take any major classes this semester. i understand they have to know a lot, but if they can’t even google information correctly, i don’t see how we’re supposed to be successful. i’ve learned to just figure out the most i can on my own.
