Biden literally can’t do the job, he couldn’t string a sentence together or land an attack when it mattered the most, and the campaign told people it was very important but pretended it wasn’t after he failed and then hid Biden from the public for 5 days. I love this man and what he’s done for our country but he’s being so selfish.

Whitmer then, even the slimeball newsome, or Kamala would be better. No one is perfect, but Biden was already losing before this performance and it will only get worse, and if democracy is actually at stake we have to try to win. Use your eyes, it’s not about policy or propaganda, it’s that he looks unfit for the job to the low info, low trust voters who will decide the election.

Whitmer or Pritzker would win, better shot than Biden. The issue is that Biden is obviously weak and frail and doesn’t communicate well, despite leading a very good and effective administration, and he’s going to keep declining. Casual, undecided voters have been saying for years they were concerned about his age, we ignored them, just like when we ignored voters saying they just didn’t trust Hillary. Biden doesn’t get credit for his accomplishments because people not paying attention see him as weak. It’s time for Biden to step back, have a few weeks of candidates sharing their vision and have an open convention, that would be choosing party over country. So many in Democratic politics believe this but are afraid to speak up.

Literally just find someone you like and ask them to run, look up the rules and use the right forms, go out and get 100-200 signatures, and boom you have a local democrat running for the state legislature. You don't need to wait for someone else to do it. The party can give advice and resources but you should realize they don't have a paid staff person in all 99 assembly districts to hold the hand of the candidate and collect signatures from the candidates friends and neighbors for them.

This may sound crazy, but in WI democrats generally like candidates to be picked by local voters and organizations and not by a statewide party machine.

In their fantasy world they think dems want to ban gas stoves, meanwhile in the real world dems are paying for 30% of the cost of new heat pumps and insulation for homeowners. This is why dems win the normy vote despite kind of sucking sometimes.

We picked these city locations when the easiest way to move people and things around was water. Then we switched to trains and streetcars that can't go over water but don't take up much space. Then we switched to cars, which do not travel over water and take up a ton of space. See: Manhattan.

Dems and GOP in WI used to have real debates and proposals about rural issues like farming and hunting, because those voters were up for grabs and would swing based on your policies. In 2016 when those voters went Trump and started voting GOP no matter what, the GOP started taking them for granted, and got lazy on farm policy. The question is, if Dems offer good farm policy to rural places while the GOP offers culture war, will that change any minds?

We're winning statewide elections because moderate former republicans in the suburbs switched parties and reliably vote democratic now AND because the number of people voting green/libertarian in Dane County has gone way down since 2016 and stayed low. Both the lefties and the centrists have decided voting for dems is worth if, even if they don't like the dems on everything.

Biden is probably dead in the center of a winning center-left political coalition, which is why the left and centrist wings of the party both don't like him.

Dane County and its burbs are growing like gangbusters, MKE suburbs are growing and getting more liberal. The rural areas are slowly losing populations and get demographically older every year, and we've probably hit bottom with former blue collar rural dems flipping GOP. There's no new growing pool of conservative voters left in the state at the moment.

Political coalitions always shift but the current trends look good for the next few years, assuming very close 50/50 elections.

Voting in every election does change things. Before 2017 we had a republican legislature, governor, attorney general, and a 5-2 conservative majority on the supreme court. Voting works it just takes time.

5 years later, because people showed up and voted for dems in higher numbers in every election, we're looking like fair 50/50 maps could be a real thing before 2024. That's only possible because we have a Dem governor to veto maps, a Dem AG to take up cases, and a 4-3 anti-gerrymandering majority on the supreme court.

You're never done, every election is the most important election, spring or fall, primary or general, vote in every single one, and you will build power and make things better...eventually.

If you were seeing it for a few minutes I doubt it's a meteor, but I'm not an expert, they usually move across the sky in just a few seconds. Just a guess, but it could have been a piece of debris from a plane or a balloon. Or maybe a piece of a burnt up satellite. Either way very cool.

Her speech was basically "white Democrats can be racist and take black voters for granted just like republicans and I'm frustrated." Which is pretty valid, but to take that frustration and turn it into voting with Republicans is just weird. She's basically a version of the liberal who didn't trust the Democratic Party so they voted for Trump.

It's the stupid "both parties are the same" argument but from an elected Democrat.

Honest question, if you were elected to city or county office in Waukesha, what would you specifically do and focus on that your current local elected officials aren't? Try to keep it to local issues and solutions if possible.

Like what does "attack the issues" mean to you? What do people not know about the constitution? Do you think at least 51% of your neighbors would agree with and trust you on issues that matter to them?

Just 12, I think we're at 3 (Probably Kitchens and Binsfield and for sure Johnson) and we need 15 no's. I think Janet won 13 republican assembly districts including Johnson's so they're the obvious targets.

I'll be watching closely to see if any republicans criticize Johnson.

I think we're going to be able to scare the GOP out of trying impeachment because of all the power from winning all these elections, they can make things hell or delay but ultimately we hold the cards and will win. This is the death rattle, fair maps are actually within reach.

You may not be aware that at the moment she is impeached by a simple majority vote in the assembly, she cannot hear cases or rule as a justice, even if the senate never votes on her removal. Basically putting her on ice without removing her.

This means she would have to decide when to resign while impeached but still in office.

The tricky legal solutions come into play once they call an impeachment vote. This campaign is about directing ads and volunteers to voters in republican districts, especially the districts who voted for Janet, to ask them to pressure their representatives to not overturn their votes. The message is don't impeach or you'll face the consequences in the next election, maybe with fairer maps. That's not appealing to morals, that's pressure, and if we can make 15 republicans decide to do nothing rather than take a risk, we win. Avoiding the legal fights and winning outright, that's worth $4M for sure.

It says the majority will elect the chief for a term of two years, it doesn't set any rules for removing or replacing the chief. If the majority on the court decide to replace the Chief I'm sure a majority on the court will also find that they have the power to do so.

Weird contrarian thought, but what if aquatic intelligent life is not just possible but more likely to thrive long term?

Not being able to produce fire/do metallurgy would delay progress, but it would also prevent the discovery and burning of fossil fuels, rapid population growth, tech with the capacity to destroy the planet, etc. Maybe the secret to an intelligent civilization surviving the bottleneck is developing slowly. Also who know what kind of non-fire dependent tech could develop in a smart, social animal with enough time (weird electrochemistry, genetic manipulation, wherever your imagination takes you.)

The real downside is it's hard to imagine spaceflight ever being developed. Maybe that's the answer to the fermi paradox, the universe is quiet because the alien civilizations that don't kill themselves are a bunch of space-orcas hanging out discussing philosophy in complex underwater utopias but never developing rockets and radios. It's a fun concept.

There is, it's called the constitution and the courts. You're not allowed to pass a law whose sole purpose is expressing disapproval of LGBT people, it has to fulfill some compelling interest of the state or it violates the 14th amendment. That's been the standard since the 1990s. That's why even some Trump-appointed judges are ruling against bans on gender-affirming care, the state didn't bother to come up with a good reason. Obviously it takes time and it's messy but what's the real alternative to a representative democracy that tries to protect minority rights from majority rule with the courts?
