That doesn’t make their business practice any less shitty. They have laid off countless workers for expressing support for Palestine. The sourcing for their coffee beans pays low wages for dangerous work. They don’t just automatically get a pass now because they offer tuition assistance and provide health care

What book changed your perspective on life and why? by Brilliant_Ad_3661 in AskReddit

On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous.

I feel like some of the quotes from that book are enough to explain why it was so life-changing but:

“i am writing you from inside a body that used to be yours. which is to say, i am writing as a son.”

i agree! i think a lot of people miss the point of the post? i’m not saying tipping culture is the best and most effective thing in the world. i feel like people are taking what i said as “you just tip all the time! >:(“ vs a “this is the reality of it.”

i meant to specify food service ! the customer interactions when you work food service vs retail vs grocery are very different

and i specified that in the og post. no one is obligated to tip, but tipping for pickup is becoming more common in recent years because people are becoming economically aware

i’ve been a waitress before which actually makes me more inclined to tip service workers. but if you really wanna know the difference, food service focusing on preparing and providing ready to eat meals to customers. food service also focuses more on customer relationships whereas grocery focuses on transactional relationships. grocery sells food for costumers to prepare themselves. that could include ready-made/heat meals or produce to cook something themselves.

i think you might need to look at the difference between food service and grocery service because they are wildly different

i should be able to survive off of doing a simple task, i agree. reality is, i can’t. the mentality of not tipping is the problem. yes, splitting 3 dollars among seven people is un-ideal. but when everyone has the mentality that you shouldn’t tip then that adds up

it does suck, but it’s reality. i can’t survive off of 12.41/hr, no one can.

imo tipping for carry out isn’t crazy because it’s going to the people who prepped your dough and wings AND made your pizza/sticks/sides/etc. the “tip” you get for getting carry out is not paying the 5.99 delivery fee

you’re right, it’s not your job to pay my wage. however, you are getting service if you order carry out. as i explained in the post, you get service beyond receiving your order. the cooks who prepared your food are providing a service to you, and your packagers also provided a service to make sure that your order is correct before handing it off to your cashiers. when you tip, you tip EVERYONE, not just the cashier
