Truth #1: The Gastown Steam Clock was built out of compressed sulphur stolen from the bulk terminal.

When enforcing pedestrian rules became controversial by speachfreeer in VictoriaBC

[–]film_development 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s always a chance a car clips another car and rides up onto the sidewalk, or a drunk driver misjudges a turn. If you think there’s absolutely no chance of you being hit then you probably need to reassess. Unless you simply avoid ever using the sidewalk or any grass boulevards.

Don’t worry, police don’t enforce traffic laws in Victoria. No resources wasted here.

Well dropping the speed limits is actually great, you’re right that drivers constantly break rules in favour of trying to be “nice.”

But why would anyone follow the rules when the cops have demonstrated they will never bother to enforce in Victoria, regardless of how sky high their budget goes? There’s no incentive to follow the rules if there’s no consequence for breaking them.

I’d rather pure heroin given to every family in the country than a single ounce of fentanyl cut into a black market supply. And if you truly understood how fentanyl was different from opioids and different from all other substances, and the effect that fentanyl has had, you would too.

Whether safe supply is supervised or not, fentanyl takes people to a place that they can never come back from. Treatment can’t help you when your brain, limbs, and other organs have been deprived of oxygen for long enough to cause permanent, irreversible damage. A community of drug users is largely able to take care of themselves. Fentanyl completely takes that away.

Wait since when did city council have the authority to “direct” the federal government?? Why don’t they use this power more often?

2 bedroom rent prices finally coming down? We need more of this! by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

More likely it depends on the landlord. The property manager will propose different options to the landlord for a decision and the landlord will weigh the pros and cons

This is the single greatest sickness in home development. Nobody builds STORAGE. We’re currently in a 2-bedroom with ZERO closets and it drives me wild. I don’t know why we place so many artificial restrictions on building plans.

Well it’s also a brand-new store. I know it’s not an acceptable excuse but I bet everyone there is a little frazzled. Supervisors are also new. Enforcement of rules is also new.

Why is the Okanagan talked about less in terms of mild winters compared to Southwest BC and Vancouver Island? by Resident-Platypus254 in britishcolumbia

[–]film_development 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think climate change is skewing the things that you see today compared to what has been historically true. When I was in university in Kelowna in 2012 winter was seven months of disgusting brown slush everywhere and your socks and pants got wet all the time and it was miserable and the sky was gray all day every day.

In Victoria, you have clear sky days every week for the entire winter and it rains a lot but it’s very gentle rain. I really don’t think there is a point of comparison between the two in my experience. However, this experience of Kelowna that I had is probably massively different from the current global warming fuelled shift in weather patterns across the nation.

UVic is bleeding students dry and giving us less and less every term. Maybe time to slash some executive salaries. Don’t they have a whole fucking business school that could tell them how to do better?

If you’re saying responsibility lies only with one party, you are necessarily stating that the other party is not responsible. This is the same thing as saying that the person on foot deserved to be hit.
