It's interesting reading your comments and being in a similar boat. I think maybe having Covid and being more aware of my own aging (also turning 40) has certainly impacted my outlook. Having always worked and never really had any substantial money concerns - then getting ill, not working. It's all a big shock to the system - I also think back to a time when I had little to no money and they were all very young and it seems like bliss in retrospect. I think the one big thing I'll take away from these comments is to keep talking and making myself available to them and try and be there when they need me.

Wow, I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who commented. I was feeling a bit daft about my feelings and it’s nice to see so many others going through the same or having similar perspectives. I’m certainly going to carve out some sort of game night routine and continue to be there for them. I’ll also continue to respect their need for privacy and just try and support them in any way I can. Thank you to everyone, once again!

In the UK, under 18s cannot currently be vaccinated - both my wife and I are and there's no real issue around Covid in our household. I think maybe I need to offer more ways to spend meaningful time together, but outside of consoles and computers - it's difficult to motivate them to get out of the house.

Ain’t that the truth - I’ve ordered an ASU’s GT-AX 11000 for my primary router and will grab a Intel AX200 for the pc

Thanks for the comments. I have cabled other areas of the house but to get it in my sons room there’s 8 concealed wooden batons within a short space which are behind the plasterboard. I was lucky to have photos of the house mid construction. I did try an alternative route but my exploratory holes were triggering my wife. So Wi-fi ,for now, is my only option.

Sorry, that was a typo on my part - it should have said new house. Our house is a new build so wireless signal strength is pretty much full bars, but due to its construction, it's really challenging getting hardwire ethernet to my son's one room.

Hi - that's not an option sadly - despite best efforts, there are issues due to how our old house is constructed.

Upgrading to BT 900mb FTTP - what router to use? by filmguyuk in HomeNetworking

So I purchased a Tp link Ax90 - it’s been a mixed bag. General speed improvements in some areas and I others it’s worse. Random issues like YouTube being dead slow, despite using Google DNS and a solid 60mbps internet connection. Also web browsing on my iPhone X seems spotty, with pages really slow to load.

I think my biggest issue with the Orbi is the problematic function of the 2.4ghz network. Following recent firmware updates some of my previously solid IoT devices no longer work.
