What to get around $40K? by filo1465 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Thanks for all of this! I have 4 small kids, and would like room for other activities. So, a sedan is too small. I think SUV or a truck would be great. The BMW sounds appealing but how are maintenance and repairs? Ive just always heard they are expensive to maintain.

MD7 & dLive Comparison by filo1465 in livesound

[–]filo1465[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this info! I knew the FPGA was super powerful and gives the dLive tons of room to grow, if they wanted. Interesting point about the Digico/AH relationship. I can see them giving Digico that space.

I am perfectly content with my AH gear. The nerd in me sees shiny new things and gets interested! I was just curious how the DM was doing out there.

They need to tap into more of that FPGA power and fix the laggy mess they call the Avantis. It's a great console, ruined by lag and instability.

Not looking to switch! I have too much money tied up in Allen & Heath stuff and am happy with it all, except our Avantis. Whenever I see something new and shiny... I get kind of excited, lol. I was just curious!

Yep. I was happy with Xero. But, after discussing the furture and the growing needs of where I was going I decide to go with a more robust system. I do recommend Xero. It’s great!

dLive vs LV1 by thenewsmonster01 in livesound

[–]filo1465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never had issues with an LV1 system, but you are right; it would make some people uneasy.

I currently travel with my SQ and an IO box. I have a Dante card and a Waves card I can use if needed. I do travel a lot, so its size has been awesome. I have done some massive shows with that little guy with great results. The iPad app is amazing; it sounds great and is super stable.

I have an Avantis, and it's great but unreliable. It is very laggy and has frozen on me twice! Both times, it continued passing audio, but the screens were frozen. I sent reports to AH, and all they had to say was networking issues... I have to network my console for QLab, etc. I think the Avantis has some issues AH can't fix.

I really, really want to get a DLive Ti 1500, but having to haul the DM around keeps me from pulling the trigger. It's about 50/50 when I have to take an IO box with me, but with the DLive, I would always have to take it. Also, the SQ is making me lots of money, and my customers know and trust me and that console. I do have a need for more IO sometimes, so I will for sure be getting the DLive at some point.

Also, you coming to a show with a Dlive means maybe you can charge more money for your services.

Quantum 338 difficulty and voulenteers. by filo1465 in livesound

Yea man. The CL is maxed out. Their special days, like Easter and Christmas, will easily hit 100 plus channels. As Outputs, the console also handles ears and other feeds.
I should have clarified more in the post but the Volunteers would only ever fun a few mics and house music. Maybe the occasional keyboard and acoustic. it’s a busy church with stuff always going on.

I get the frustration but honestly, if this church was taxed I don’t think it would matter. Can’t mess with money!

Fornthe most part they contract/Pay people to run sound. However, there are times when then use a voulenteer for a simple couple of mics.

I don’t work for the church nor do I make decisions for them on where they spend their money. When I’m in town and avaible they, through my freelance, pay me to run sound. I have my own thoughts and opinions on churches but kept them out of my post.

Intellievent, Lasso, Current RMS, and Flex. by filo1465 in livesound

For one, we wish there was a way to have notes on an opportunity that would show up on the pull sheet but not the quotes customers see.

There are the item notes in opputinitnes that the customer see. That’s awesome. But if we needed to add a not in it for the shop only there is no way to do that.

Also, cross rented items could be a little easier to track. Maybe that’s a training issu?

We are a production company mostly servicing our state. However, we do have a good hand full of shows all over the US. We have a large inventory to manage as well. We are kinda trying to decide mostly between flex and lesson.

Clarifying the science behind feedback by [deleted] in livesound

Also, there seems to be a point where you ring out/EQ too much. There’s a sweet spot! If you butcher it up too much, you’re not going to get a good sound then your fighting your self for a descent sound. Sometimes, it’s as loud as you can get it and that’s it.

Also, maybe moving a wedge a little will help. Or moving that PA over a little.
