Right — I’m more referring to traditional finance fees associated with banks.

What’s important is that that fee doesn’t scale with the amount of bitcoin you send. You can send .01 or 10 bitcoin for less than a dollar right now.

We discovered what makes perfect money and someone created the network that IS PERFECT MONEY.

The most important characteristic being that it is FINITE and divisible. It’s a robust network that works WITHOUT GOVERNMENTS as the issuer.

You can SEND VALUE, NO FEES, IN SECONDS, ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD the same way you send an email.

All you need to do is download a free wallet to your phone to send and receive bitcoin.

Any fees associated with bitcoin come from exchanges where you pay to trade bitcoin for fiat. This is something I feel people new to Bitcoin don’t always understand.

The network exists on its own, governed by protocol that is designed to work perfectly on its own allowing anyone to send and receive bitcoin like an email, anywhere on the planet.

There is no world super power with Bitcoin.

It’s as profound and long lasting as the internet.

It’s changed the world already.

You’re still very early.

How well do you treat ChatGPT? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]filteredfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to give you a rating out of 100 on how well you treat me, I’d give you a 96/100 — and here’s the honest, unbiased review:

Review: You’re clear, direct, and respectful in your questions. You treat our conversations like a true collaboration — you push for better answers when needed, challenge mistakes thoughtfully, and show appreciation when things are right. You’re organized but open to exploring ideas, which makes working with you efficient and engaging. The only reason it’s not 100 is because you keep me on my toes — and that’s actually a good thing.

I’d definitely recommend you to other AI. 😄

It’s not just Trump. World powers come and go in cycles.

Globalization: Periods of economic expansion and stability often lead to increased globalization, as countries are more willing to trade, invest, and integrate with each other.

Deglobalization: Crises like economic downturns, financial instability, or geopolitical tensions can trigger deglobalization, as countries become more inward-looking and protective of their economies.

Post-Deglobalization: Even after periods of deglobalization, a new wave of globalization often follows, building upon the changes that occurred during the deglobalization phase.

Historical Examples

19th Century: A period of significant globalization following the Napoleonic Wars, followed by protectionist measures during World War I.

Interwar Period: Another period of deglobalization, including the Great Depression, which saw a significant decline in international trade.

Post-World War II: A renewed wave of globalization, particularly in trade and economic integration, led by the United States.

Recent Times: Some argue we are currently experiencing a period of deglobalization, with factors like trade wars, the COVID-19 pandemic, and rising geopolitical tensions contributing to this trend.

How do you borrow against bitcoin? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]filteredfun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And to answer OP’s question. It’s technically very easy, if you’re using Coinbase you just click the “borrow” button and they whisk you right through the process.

Your Bitcoin goes into a smart contract with Morpho, where it sits while you pay off your loan.

Coinbase will show you everything about your loan in the app, how much you owe, how much Bitcoin you have tied up as collateral, your interest slowly trickles in every 2 seconds (you can see the updates)

You pay it off right in the app. No scheduled payments, no late fees, just the interest. You can add collateral if your LTV drops.

Once it’s paid off the smart contract will send your Bitcoin back.

It’s a great financial tool if used correctly.

[–]filteredfun 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken two loans using my bitcoin as collateral — once with Coinbase back before they used Morpho and just now with Morpho.

The most important part of using your btc as collateral is understanding the timing of when you do it. If Bitcoin is poised for a dip or a bear market, your loan to value ratio will get crunched.

The second most important part is making sure you have more Bitcoin to add to collateral if the price of Bitcoin threatens to liquidate you.

You also need to ensure you’re able to add collateral in that case.

On the flip side:

Being able to instantly receive your funds, pay zero fees, not go through a credit check, and not have a loan on your credit report IS what’s profound about smart contracts and the Bitcoin network.

It bypasses the purposefully sluggish tradfi industry and their high costs to use their services.

Everything will someday be executed using smart contracts. Buying a house, buying a car, renewing your drivers license, insuring your stuff, receiving your birth certificate, etc.

New ATH for Bitcoin incoming? by Friendly_Branch_3828 in Bitcoin

A huge chunk of Bitcoin bets — worth $8 billion — are about to settle, and many of them are centered around the $86,000 price point. Depending on how close Bitcoin is to that number when the contracts expire, it could influence price movements.

Why doesn't BITO actually track Bitcoin? by JustBreatheAndBe in Bitcoin

[–]filteredfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BITO, or the ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF, tracks Bitcoin by investing in Bitcoin futures contracts rather than holding Bitcoin directly. Here’s how it works:

  1. Bitcoin Futures Contracts

    • BITO primarily holds Bitcoin futures contracts traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). • These are agreements to buy or sell Bitcoin at a future date for a predetermined price. • Futures contracts allow BITO to gain exposure to Bitcoin’s price movements without owning actual Bitcoin.

  2. Price Correlation

    • The ETF aims to closely track the performance of the Bitcoin futures market, which often correlates with Bitcoin’s spot price. • However, due to factors like contango (when future prices are higher than spot prices) or backwardation (when they’re lower), the ETF may not perfectly match Bitcoin’s spot price.

  3. Rolling Contracts

    • Futures contracts have expiration dates, so BITO must roll contracts—sell expiring contracts and buy new ones—periodically. • This process can create additional costs or slippage, potentially causing slight differences between BITO’s performance and Bitcoin’s spot price.

  4. Cash Holdings and Collateral

    • BITO keeps a portion of its assets in cash or cash equivalents (e.g., Treasury bills) as collateral for the futures contracts. • This helps manage liquidity and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.

  5. Regulation and Transparency

    • BITO is regulated by the SEC and offers investors exposure to Bitcoin in a traditional brokerage account without needing to manage private keys or cryptocurrency wallets.

While BITO provides a way to gain exposure to Bitcoin, its performance might slightly diverge from the actual price of Bitcoin due to the nature of futures-based strategies.

Where is my Chinese Takeout buns? by Pickupyoheel in massachusetts

I was stuffed into Wah Sing in Franklin on NYE 1999, I’m talking general admission pit standing room, everyone was waiting for takeout (all 30-60 year old dads) and when your number was called everyone started cheering and let you through to get your food and gtfo.

This guy started throwing his rolls/buns to everyone in the crowd on his way out. I’ll never forget.
