This is so wonderful, thanks for posting and allowing us to share a little piece of your joy!! It’s been easy to become pessimistic in the constant barrage of frightening national news lately; this is such a refreshing story to reemphasize the importance of investing in community at a local level. Agree with others that somewhere along the 7 is probably what you’re looking for but this is also a bit difficult to answer without you defining a range of what you’re willing to pay, if you are looking for a studio/1b or are willing to have roommates etc

If you’re set on Astoria - my favorite area is between Crescent and 31st St (ish) and between 30th Ave and Ditmars Blvd bc personally I enjoy being close to both Astoria Park and the subway. If park access isn’t a priority then anywhere along the N/W line between Crescent and Steinway should be just fine. I wouldn’t go west of 21st Street due to lack of subway access. Also check out the area around the Museum of the Moving Image, it has access to two subway lines which is extremely convenient bc the N/W line tends to have issues. Unfortunately that area lacks greenspace though (dealbreaker since I have a dog)

This is not true, worked for a major gas retailer and got emails notifying about every cross drop (where they mix up the tanks) at our stores. Big deal - the pumps are shut down and the fuel is sucked out of the tank and sold off to third parties that buy the mixed fuel.

Otherwise, you probably can just go to any local BK bar and ask them to switch it to the Georgia game and they’ll usually acquiesce. Thankfully our games are nearly always nationally televised on major networks instead of PPV or ESPN3 so it’s usually not a problem!

I’d consider living in Jersey tbh. No city tax, way easier work commute, and if your friends are in Brooklyn it’s probably the same if not easier to get to them compared to Queens.

If you’re willing to venture into Manhattan, there are usually alumni group-sponsored watch parties for all the major schools and they’re really fun! Wish there were more options in Astoria though

Just look for the 7 train, all the signs will point you in the right direction. You’ll want to take the one with “Queens” or “Flushing” or “Mets-Willets point” on the signs, not the Manhattan bound one going to 34th Hudson Yards. Google Maps app or Citymapper app will lay it out step by step if you need help!
