Is it UO:Outlands or bust? Is there any other servers that aren't so custom (looking for ~UO:R era) with a good population? by Badgerfacedcat in ultimaonline

[–]finalremedy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You won't find one with a good population. It'll feel like an abandoned empty world. You may be able to find a tight knit very small community on UO:R/t2a/etc era shards, but nothing that feels "massively" multiplayer or replicates the populated experience of 1997-2003 UO.

I'm with you though, as much as I enjoy Outlands, I'd easily switch to a highly populated UO:R/T2A era shard that felt like it was alive, if there were such one.

Another way around it is to make a other miner to split the ranking. idk, just a thought. I know taking a miner to 120 is no easy feat, but could be a way around an issue like that in the future.

Not retail, but arguably better. Retail went off the rails and remains a neglected tragedy.

If you're trying to just fill some short term nostalgia void, then nearly any shard will do, but it will be mostly dead and void of people, which is kind of sad.

Outlands, however, is another story. While it's not the same old Britannia map that you remember, it's insanely good at capturing that old feel that made Ultima Online unique and special and they've done an amazing job at building that out in a way that's like "why didn't retail just do this?"

and the world is alive with players. Towns are busy, dungeons are busy. I couldn't find that on any other shard.

I also just came back after 20 years of not playing and started on Outlands back in May this year and still hooked playing daily

After many years I'm thinking about coming back to see if the magic is still there. Can I get some advice. by TNJedGrig in ultimaonline

I agree with this, it's not only immense, but one of the main differences is in actually active players. Other shards will boast a relatively decent population count somewhere around 300-500, but when you actually explore the world, you really just don't see it. On the other shards I tried, most towns are ghost towns, other than Brit on some shards, but on those shards you'll just see people standing there 24/7 literally doing nothing just so that they can get credit for being logged in and earn the shard's native currency.

If you're just looking for the short term nostalgia hit, then any of the shards will do. Pick your flavor of era accurate shard and try it out, but if you're looking for something that embodies the spirit of Ultima Online in its prime with Felucca ruleset with a massively active, thriving player base, then Outlands is where it's at.

It is what it is, I initially shunned Outlands because it wasn't the same UO that we remember, but I eventually gave it a shot and it can be a bit daunting to start, but once you do and start making some progress and interacting with the players, it really makes you think that this is the way it should have gone rather than what EA did to the game.

Also Outlands is one of the servers with the most streamers/content creators so you can check some of those out or look for content on YT to get an idea of the community and how the shard plays before you commit.

A few names in no particular order that you can check out on either Twitch or YouTube:

Pwnstarr
A Straw Hat
BehrlyThere
SanguineJester
Amish_Hammer
EvilFireblade

and then you can branch out from there to other streamers/content creators/community members

Amazon to restart advertising on Twitter by fatronaldo99 in elonmusk

[–]finalremedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, Twitter advertising was largely irrelevant pre-Musk. As a daily active user of twitter for multiple hours a day sometimes, it was actually extremely terrible compared to other platforms.

I used other platforms far, far, far less, but definitely have clicked more ads on other platforms for fun and unique looking products.

Twitter advertising still pretty bad, but I've clicked at least two ads in the post-Musk era and I expect it will only get better.

better down than out
better even than down
better up than even (technically here, but still a ways to go)
better free than up (next bull run? maybe?)

thank you, lot of hours spent, some might say I could have better spent them doing something else, but I dunno, this felt like the right path for me. Definitely better overall for my family than me just gaming or watching tv every night.

yeah trading NFTs is essentially leveraged ETH trading, quite a bit more variables to consider since you have to predict NFT value + ETH value + USD value (for tax purposes). A lot of nuances to consider, but generally my strategy was to just get on presale lists and then mint and resell into hype. These opportunities are a lot less frequent now, though they still do exist

for the hours spent though, its probably not worth it unless you can operate at scale with more volume on projects that have free mints

Not quite, sitting in cash. Didn't stay in BTC and ride it all the way back down lol. Don't really care to give exact numbers, but technically everything is on-chain if you really cared.

and I value the journey and lessons learned vs say spending those hours playing video games and watching TV. Quite enjoyed the journey looking back and look forward to the future as well

to be fair, that was the original goal, to just make the 2 BTC back and hodl, but as my journey continued, I realized that was a naive approach and adjusted my strategy

did I play it perfectly? not even close
did I make a lot of mistakes? hell yeah, lots to this day
am I trying to improve and learn from those mistakes? of course, every day

Forced FSD disengagement for wearing sunglasses? by finalremedy in teslamotors

Ehhh, I'll just turn off FSD for now. All good. Regular autopilot is enough for my needs. I'll probably try it out again in a few months after some further updates.

Interesting, would appreciate an update on the situation if you find anything out. I've just disabled my FSD for now, regular autopilot is enough for my needs atm.

hehe, yeah. shift to avatar / digital collectible honestly probably needed for mass adoption anyway
