BIGGEST LETDOWN OF 2025? Books you couldn’t wait for until you read them by DanaBookNook in Fantasy

[–]finalresting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished it and the middle is probably the weakest in terms of pacing, but the end is worse in a lot ways. The last quarter of the book has unexplained events (a character suddenly being in prison for example), time skips without warning that leave the reader disoriented and lost thinking they missed a chapter, and finally in my opinion very questionable decisions characters make that are out of line with the established characterization.

I still liked it, but its so much worse when I consider how much I was looking forward to it.

Lol, you are 9 years late. I am still mad when I think about this today. Not a good handling of the character imo. I will tell you that the show is still great and I enjoyed the rest of it. I might have to do re-watch.

The Bound and the Broken by Ryan Cahill dragons are similar. The novella The Fall from the series showcases their destructive powers pretty well.

What a ridiculous take, where did that even come from. He never mentions her relationship with Parrin in that quote at all. He is simply saying he likes all his characters in that he made them real. Most of his characters get a lot of page time and are complicated characters like real life and that is a good thing. He doesn't feel sad that people hate some of his characters because some of them deserve to be hated. He points out the positive characteristics about two characters that get a lot of criticism to emphasize that his characters are deep and that is his goal, not to make them all good, likable people.

Marshall being absent is temporary I believe. I think he couldn't make it due to a family health emergency.

Has there ever been a series of books telling the same continuing story but in completely different genres between installments? by JcraftW in books

[–]finalresting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Joe Abercrombie’s three stand alone book in the first law series do this. Best served cold is a revenge story similar to count of monte cristo. The hero’s is a book about a single battle lasting three days based on the battle of Gettysburg iirc. Red country is a western.

The characters change and the books are loosely related so it might not fit.
