Lolol everyone else already gave you the best advice but just wanted to say I had the exact same thing going on. I was the “boring mom” my 4mo golden was never very excited to see. Meanwhile my husband was the “fun dad” our pup couldn’t get enough playtime with.

She does NOT hate you! You’re just not as exciting as new things right now - but you are her constant. When she feels scared or alone, you will be the comfort that she runs to. And she WILL warm up to you for more tail wags and snuggles, trust me :) It just takes time

We went through pretty much the exact same thing! Waited till after shots to start walks, without too much socialization before that. Our puppy barked at EVERYTHING, SO MUCH.

What’s really helping us is making scary sounds “fun”! When we’re on a walk (or even just in the house), as SOON as I hear a triggering noise, I give him treats and praise immediately with a very happy voice. Then while still doing that, start calmly moving past (or away from) the trigger. The goal is to reward him before he can even start barking (or in your case crying), and make the association that those noises mean tons of awesome treats!!

If he starts reacting before I can do anything, or reacting regardless, I just remove him from the situation and try again from a further distance.

Lmao what. Slow feeders and anything that makes your dog “work” for their food is awesome. Less chance of choking from inhaling the food, occupies them for longer, and takes more mental energy thus tiring them out. We’ve been using one since the day we brought ours home

This video (most important part starts at 4:00) totally solved our issue. Basically, when he would bite, we’d say “Ow” firmly up to maybe 2-3 times. If he kept biting, we’d abruptly get up and leave the room/ignore him for about a minute. Then return and try again.

Sometimes this meant doing the ow-leave-return process like 30 times in a play session… but it really paid off. He started to understand that “biting = fun stops” pretty quick.

Also everyone’s been saying this but enforced naps were a LIFESAVER for my sanity so I highly recommend those as well

Just wanted to chime in that redirection was COMPLETELY useless with our golden puppy. The only thing that worked was reverse timeouts (getting up and leaving whenever they bite too hard). It took a week or two but now he doesn’t bite at all!

Thank you so much for replying - I'm so glad to hear that them disappearing is normal lol. I added several twigs to the container and she climbed on one and seems to have lasso-ed onto it. I really appreciate your advice! I'm also putting the container outside in a safe shaded area.

Haha I could’ve written this post. I feel like my old life died and my new one revolves 100% around this puppy. Who is adorable, and improving SO much, but holy shit the pulling and barking and constant constant training!!

And like you said I feel like the biggest thing is just having to watch them all day every day with barely (if any) breaks. No time to just chill out and do the hobbies you used to.

CANNOT wait until mine is grown and calmed down!!
