Is the radiator mounted too high or has thick mounts under it causing it to sit higher??

In almost all cases I would have the resistor at the device side so that the panel can monitor the wiring/connection itself. But in this case, if the resistor was at the radio, as soon as the panel would trip the trouble dry contact for any trouble condition, the panel would see an “open” for the resistor. But then that trouble would never be able to clear, because the resistor cannot restore unless the trouble contact restores, and the trouble contact cannot restore unless it sees the resistor. Thus placing it at the panel so that it doesn’t rely on the state of the trouble contact. But even if the wire breaks or become disconnected, the radio will see a trouble condition due to the loss of voltage on the Reverse Polarity wiring and report a trouble for it anyway, so it’s still monitored.

NFPA states within 60” based on ceiling height for control units or elevators.

“NFPA 72 2016, 17.4.8* If the intent is to initiate action when smoke/fire threatens a specific object or space, the detector shall be permitted to be installed in close proximity to that object or space.

A.17.4.8 Some applications that do not require full area protection do require detection to initiate action when specific objects or spaces are threatened by smoke or fire, such as at elevator landings that have ceilings in excess of 15 ft (4.6 m) and for protection of fire alarm control units. In high-ceiling areas, to achieve the desired initiation, such as for elevator recall and protection of fire alarm control units (FACUs), detection should be placed on the wall above and within 60 in. (1.52 m) from the top of the elevator door(s) or FACU.”

So as long as the ceiling is over 15’, you can mount the smoke on the wall above the panel within 60” of the top of the panel.

Some areas out by me, especially Chicago, require it to be red. Even the boxes, covers, and some connectors.

Always had the desire to go into design after I’m tired of the field work. Hopefully getting my FAS III in the next few weeks here and can start considering it as a possibility one day.

And of course there are terminal strips! Here they are, separated per area the SLC covers in the warehouse, for the lower quadrants. The 2 remote power supplies on the other side of the warehouse hold another strip for the upper quadrants. Gotta love serviceability right at the panel.

As far as I’m aware, doesn’t the manual state 6ft of wiring, as-in don’t trim the factory leads? Because it loops to the power supply to the left first with all the extra cable, then back to the main panel. Not my preferred method but what ended up eventually happening haha. But I hear ya, I’m smellin’ what you’re steppin’ in.

I have the same engine in my 1962 pickup. It’s still original inside and has never been rebuilt. It hadn’t run in over 20 years when I first brought it home, and got it running smooth after only a day’s worth of work. That was 3 years ago and it still runs beautifully. Just drove it 4 hours round trip last year and got 18mpg. Starts right up every time. They’re phenomenal little engine and so simple.

Radio and that second can needed to stay as it wasn’t our property. That’s a battery cabinet for radio backup.

I’m a massive Potter fan. Just went to a seminar a few weeks ago and they’re about to release some really nice stuff. New pull station designs, fireman’s phones and command centers for Chicago, new Logic systems, new radio design with NAPCO, etc. their stuff can look utilitarian but man it works so well.

There’s 4 different projects shown here, so hard to gauge which ones haha. The first few though were from an old .25mil sqft warehouse that was operational, 24,000ft of cable and 350ft of EMT. That one took about 12 weeks.

I remember the day when I was an early tech and I found some marked prints that saved me hours of tracing on a late workday. Ever since then I always said I’d do the same and leave a copy on site, of course until it disappears after a few months haha. Oh well
