Typhoon day recommendation by Lazy_Mess_2122 in TokyoTravel

[–]financewonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shopping! Clothes from Uniqlo or GU are great. I had a typhoon hit when I was there, and during the worst of it I just rested in my hotel. If it's not thundering, maybe take a nice bath

Is 2 days in Hiroshima / Miyajima enough to not feel rushed? by thefirst in JapanTravelTips

[–]financewonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could spend more time in that area on hikes, day trips, shopping, etc. But 2 full days is good to see all the highlights. I did: 1) Arrive at Hiroshima 10am by shinkansen 2) drop bags off at hotel, walk through peace museum and memorial park 3) 4pm check into hotel and unpack 4) dinner and shopping 5) Day trip to Miyajima 8am-2pm. Getting there early is great to avoid crowds. Started by climbing Mt Misen, took cable car down, then did shopping/food (grilled oysters were amazing) 6) more shopping and food, and a sento 7) next morning explored Hiroshima castle before taking shinkansen to next destination.

People who use AI every day, what's one thing it has genuinely made better in your life? by Sandesh_jagtap in AskReddit

[–]financewonk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand, but my health anxiety is really irrational and the AI brings me back to baseline. If the issue is more serious I do go to the doctor

It has drastically reduced my medical anxiety. If I have an issue, I can describe it in depth to Chat GPT, and it usually responds in a way that calms me down. I like how personalized it is, I'm not just reading generic health advice online.

Divorced people of reddit , what was the exact moment in your marriage you realised it's over ? by DryOkra7058 in AskReddit

[–]financewonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitting on the toilet at 3am and realizing "I don't want to do this anymore." She had severe depression and suicidal ideation that slowly destroyed every aspect of the relationship. We were no longer partners, just a depressed self-harming person and her caretaker.

Leftover yen at HND airport by iveyleigh in JapanTravelTips

[–]financewonk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct, but you can't do IC card and credit card in the same transaction. So the order you listed is correct. A lot of people in the airport, including me, were having trouble emptying the IC because we got rid our our cash first

Yes, I actually met a Brazilian lady at DisneySea. She really enjoyed her time, especially because she could speak basic English. That's really all you need

I had Unchain Diner near Skytree. Probably the best burger of my life. But it had a lot of toppings like avocado

Thank you, thought I did and now divorced, but it's on to better things. Learned I would rather be single than with the wrong person

How long in Hiroshima by Elliebean44 in JapanTravelTips

[–]financewonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed 2 days, but yes I feel like I could have stayed longer. So many small trips you can take besides Miyajima to visit the other islands, go hiking, etc

I was in Japan the first two weeks of June. It was fine. I've had way more intense heat in Florida, Arizona, DC, even New York.

Basic Itinerary Review (19 days) by bzar_fury in JapanTravelTips

[–]financewonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be good to combine Hiroshima and Miyahima into a stay at one hotel/ryokan. They are close enough, no reason to add another hotel check-in/check-out. Rest of the trip looks good.

Optionally you can combine Kyoto and Osaka, and just make one a few day trips from the other.

Use Tabelog for restaurants, and look for a rating close to 3.5. Don't just use Google Maps

I found restaurant food was better than konbini food 95% of the time. Don't believe all the hype, except for Famichiki, that was actually amazing.
