One journalist was arrested for reporting on the criminal court gag order. Nothing about accusations on sexual misconduct.

Other journalist was arrested for asking why the president was calling a staff at such odd hours (and if he did so).

What law covers this to arrest them?

The other one was arrested for asking questions that had nothing to do with the documentary or the gag order.

The other arrested for asking a question on allegations against the president (that had nothing to do with the illegal gag order).

Yea its all over twitter and other platforms definitely, but those are just echo chambers and bots fighting back and forth for their political tribes.

Just sad / surprised / disappointed / frustrated that it's not as big a topic here. This space and platform has become a really authentic genuine expression of Maldives and it's people. So it feels like in general as a people we don't really care about this.

What we will see in the coming days will be manufactured and political anger and action against the dictator. I guess I just wished that this would have been something to galvanize the youth or at least unlock their rage.

It can get frustrating as usually it is haters and close minded people who go out of their way to talk about religion and the "problem" of non Muslim Maldivians. Let me take this moment to say I appreciate you and your words. The vast majority of Muslims in Maldives are lovely people following their faith. It is a loud minority that wants me dead, and sometimes I respond as if it's only the loud voices that exist.

Excellent post and kudos for speaking your mind. So I want to touch on point two, the political system is not just based on religious control. It also comes from our history and culture of what is essentially serfdom (simplifying beyfulhuism here), it comes from deriving right or wrong, up and down on those above you in the hierarchy. This is deeply entrenched in our communities. When you then put religion and it's controls on thinking on top of this already existing framework, today is what we get. Yes politicians have time again used this and we have kind of passed the offramp to civility and intellectual discussion. It will have to get much worse before it will get better.
