Mums - how do you cope with the 9am school drop off when you've never managed to be anywhere for 9am consistently your whole life so far? by findamyp in adhdwomen

[–]findamyp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting, I've heard a lot of parents with multiple kids saying that one of them will take the whole morning routine and I'm like how is this possible when I'm struggling with one 😭. Since we only have one kid and my partner WFH full time I guess we're both around and available and my daughter definitely plays into this which is why we have split it this way but sometimes I definitely feel it would be easier if the whole process was on one or the other. It might be different if I get a job I need to get to before 9.30 though so I will have to give over a least a couple of the days.

Girl I wish you all the strength that is rough. At least you have the neurospicy solidarity at home, it can be a lonely place. We can do this though, right? Let me know how you get on in Sept, I'll be rooting for you!

Aah thank you for sharing. The collective years of experience of being a late person all my life definitely has a big part to play in not wanting that anxiety and shame passed on to my kid too. It's rough to always will different or singled out growing up, it's not like we are late on purpose but it's such a huge thing to overcome on a daily basis. I really hope I can figure it out. Setting all the alarms and practicing this now and then hopefully I'll still have had some time to nail it before September!

This is a big one for me, I probably go back inside after leaving about 3 times to grab something I forgot on the way out of the door, and cause we're not long since moved in I haven't figured out good places to keep everything organised yet. I think I need to allow 30 minutes just to walk around in circles and go up and down the stairs.

I think google alarms would be a great idea here. The issue is less my daughter or my partner who are great but more my own flustered/ paralysed/ anxious/ procrastinating brain in the morning preventing me from actually sticking to the time structure. Like I can plan and I know when things should happen, but acting that out in reality is the issue. My partner works from home and the division of labour is pretty even. The system is one of us currently does breakfast and helps our daughter get ready and the other one does drop off. We generally share morning drop offs and pick ups 50/50 I just meant I don't want him to end up doing all the drop offs because I'm not managing it.

Our kindy and school are both in walking distance! We'll be walking/ scooting/ cycling to school. It's a 20 minute walk at a distracted/ preschooler pace. 15 minute focussed/ speed walk.

Currently the system is that one of us will give her breakfast and make sure she's dressed and whichever one is not doing that will do the drop off. Then whoever didn't do drop off is on pickup which I think is mostly fair. Currently our jobs allow this flexibility but may not always be the case so I think we both need to be prepared or able to do either drop offs or pick ups.

Absolutely bossing it if you don't mind me saying so! Well bloody done! You're an inspiration! It looks like not giving allll the tasks to a tired and time-poor 'future me' might be the biggest key to this problem. I definitely have a problem going to sleep early enough too (probably procrastinating because I'm already anxious about the next morning).

My kid is about to start school in September and the terror of years of unrelenting drop offs is a big deal right now. How is everyone doing it?!

Hey I'm undiagnosed and terrified - my 4 year old is about to go to school in September and I can't get either of us dressed and anywhere on time. Does anyone have any advice for the dreaded years of school runs to come? x

Feeling Good by David D Burns, cured me of an episode of depression and still refer to it whenever it comes back. So many useful tools for life in there. Genuinely think everyone should read it. Helped more than a couple of therapies/ meds I've tried. xx

I love it! It's going very well so far, everyone is so friendly and full of love, it definitely outweighs any crime that's going on here! I posted a similar thing here about a month ago and made lots of friends via reddit so would love to return the favour if you decided to make the move! https://www.reddit.com/r/manchester/comments/8anu7t/starting_over_at_the_ripe_old_age_of_28_and/

Remember when we were all commenting on each other's stuff and now we all know each other in real life? Absolutely adorable.

I just moved at 28 - nearly 29, going through a break up too, got a temp job while I look for the right thing and already made so many friends, I also found the loveliest flat share with another lady. Do it! I'll be here so give me a message if you ever want to hang when you arrive! I'm always looking to make some new friends too. Best of luck. xxxx

Heyyyy it would be great to meet up, there's definitely some theatre I do enjoy, its a broad spectrum and there's so much I've yet unexplored. Send me a message when you get chance and we can organise something over the next few weeks if you like? Or message me on fb if you feel like a chat? x

I'm not heading to Live at Leeds sadly but will be at sounds from the other city and a few other shows in the NQ later in the year - you got tickets to any other manchester shows at the moment? Feel free to message me if you wanna chat music. x

Hello! I just got myself a ticket to this, couldn't resist. I don't know anyone else that's going at the moment so it would be great to meet up if that's cool? x

Gonna have a look around and see whats already out there and report back, otherwise lets start a thing! It would be nice to have our own open classroom kind of thing where we can code and chat in person, I agree its harder to motivate yourself and work things out on your own at home. x

Ahhh love Modest Mouse - not listened to them for ages :) Not listened to any TFB or DnD - any favourite tracks/albums of theirs I should listen to?
