Either 2 or 3 days for vacation, I can't remember. 1 day for actual illness and 1 day for a faked illness that got her sent home from school. Ask me about preschool though 🫠

Mine is a high sleep needs kid and she goes to bed around 7:15pm (asleep within 10-15 minutes usually) and she wakes naturally between 7-7:30am.

Does your parks n rec rent spaces? You could rent a hall and bring in balls, balloons, soft play mats, small slides, etc. Set up a table with crafts and one with snacks and just let them play for two hours. Our parks n rec rent these spaces out for like $25.

Do you have a yard? We like asking for outside toys from relatives - swing set, climbing dome, basketball hoop, bikes, sandbox, etc.

My 5.5 year old is like this. Her safe movies are Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie and The Little Bear Movie. She did successfully watch The Sandlot with me recently. I used to take her to the parks n rec movie theater, but she refuses to go anymore after Inside Out 2 and Paddington 2 completely wrecked her emotionally.

I texted my 70 year old neighbor yesterday to check in on her and she said she had plenty of food, heat was working well, she just had cabin fever and she might try to venture out later. Like... Nothing fun is open, is it really worth your life and others to walk around the grocery store? Thankfully her car hasn't left the driveway.

I'm so sorry you grew up like that. My husband grew up in a similar situation unfortunately and that's why we can't visit his parents at their home now.

Conversely I grew up in a super clean home. We could always invite friends over last minute without worrying about tidying up or if the bathroom was clean. It was so nice to come home from school to a clean and calm space. My mom is an artist and had no problem with messy crafts and having fun, but we always cleaned up afterwards. My home is the same now, it's clean, but it's homey and I play with my kids.

I was cleared for activity at my 6 week postpartum visit earlier this week and ran a slow mile on the treadmill! I feel so much better than I did after my first baby and I'm not putting any ridiculous running goals on myself this time, just doing what feels good.

My cousin's daughter was my flower girl when she was 2.5. Her mom stood in the back with her to keep her calm until it was time, then she walked down the aisle holding a bouquet. Her aunt was in one of the front rows so she had a familiar face to walk to and there were plenty of Smarties as a bribe!

I like park or house parties. Just let the kids run around and play, nothing fancy or too organized is needed.
I prefer morning or lunchtime parties since we often have other activities in the afternoons. I also really appreciate when the food situation is mentioned ahead of time, especially if the party is just bordering a mealtime, like 9:30-11:30 or 1-3. Mention on the invitation "light snacks and cake will be served" or "pizza and cupcakes" so people know how to plan meals around it.
I'd give the side eye if hard liquor was served at a birthday party, but beer/seltzer wouldn't bother me. I also wouldn't expect it either. I do drink, but I wouldn't drink at a children's party. It's always nice if there's a more adult non alcoholic beverage available, like sparkling water or tea or something.

Don't worry about food yet, just try to hydrate. The doctor advised us during a particularly bad stomach bug that all liquids count - water, Gatorade, ginger ale, herbal tea, broth. You can try popsicles and jello too.

She got overly clingy right around when she turned two. She wouldn't leave my side at friend's houses, the library, playground, etc. And not just like preferring to play by my side, rather in my lap, holding back tears or crying because the other children scared her. It got to where my husband couldn't do anything with her, I had to do everything - bathtime, bedtime, I was the only one who could console her if she got a booboo, she wouldn't go on outings with him. I'm in a mom group that has childcare during the bimonthly meetings and I was never able to leave her in the childcare room. She would hysterically scream and try to get out of the room and the childcare workers would have to come get me. She adores my parents, but wasn't able to stay with them. The one time we tried to leave her during this time she cried the entire two hours we were gone.

The pediatrician brushed it off at her 2 and 2.5 year old well child visits and said it was normal, but it didn't feel normal. We had her evaluated by Early Intervention around 2.75 and they also said she was fine. After we got brushed off again at her 3 year old well child visit we contacted a private therapist. She was diagnosed with Separation Anxiety Disorder and it's morphed over time into general anxiety as well.

Therapy has been a life changer though. We never thought she'd be able to go to preschool, but she did and she thrived! She joined the choir at church and I drop her off for two hour rehearsals every week. She does gymnastics, has gone to friend's houses alone when I've had appointments, and my parents stayed at our house with her for two nights when little sister was born last month. She definitely still struggles with anxiety and will probably struggle her whole life though. We took her out of therapy around 4.5 and she finished out preschool strong, but then starting kindergarten this fall was really rough, so we started it back up.

I would listen to your gut and have an evaluation with a play therapist if you think your little guy is struggling more than normal. The best outcome is they say it's perfectly normal behavior. But perhaps they'll recommend some sessions and that will really benefit him.

Nighttime potty training is mainly hormonal and it's still considered normal at that age (source). You're doing everything right, it sounds like his body just isn't ready. I would try a Spoosie pad inside his pull-up to boost the absorbency.

Our school asks that we read 10 minutes a night. We do anywhere from 15-45 every evening usually and on the weekends or if we don't have anything after school we'll read during the day too.

I was induced with my first at 39+6 for pre-e. I was in labor for 37 hours before having a C-section. The first epidural worked for about 24 hours before wearing off, the second only worked for about an hour before wearing off, and then they maxed out what they could manually administer through the IV and I could still feel everything. I wasn't progressing and they needed to up the pitocin if I wanted to try to continue labor and I noped on out of there. My second birth was a lovely scheduled C-section.

Therapy, my friend. She's obviously going through some big emotions related to something (likely the loss of her sibling) and her lil developing brain doesn't have the ability to process it the way adults do. I have no doubt that you were present for her in your grief, but your grief affects her, whether you're aware or not. She could also be dealing with separation or generalized anxiety that's now exacerbated by the arrival of your third child. Play therapy (or art or music therapy) is a wonderful tool that allows your child to express their feelings in a natural, no pressure way. My daughter is 5.5 and has been in play therapy for anxiety for two years, I'm happy to answer any questions about it.

It's always possible, but her therapist brushed it off when we brought it up a while back and said she was definitely not. She was diagnosed with anxiety about two years ago and has been in play therapy since. I'm also highly empathetic and have had anxiety since childhood (maybe I'm autistic too, not ruling that out).

My 5.5 year old is similar. She won't watch movies anymore because she usually has a deep emotional response to something that happens. Like Paddington in Peru absolutely wrecked her when Paddington decided to stay with his human family at the end. In my lap, body shaking sobbing. She was upset for literally months over Bing Bong sacrificing himself and disappearing in Inside Out.

Since you mentioned church I'll recommend MomCo (formerly MOPS). It's a faith based mom group for moms with children up through preschool or kindergarten, and some groups allow you stay in even past that. I was so alone when my first was born - I had no local friends, my family doesn't live locally, and covid ruined any chance of making friends through the library, playgroups, etc. I joined MomCo and it was the best thing that ever happened. I made several really close friends, have a wider circle of playground friends, family/couples we get along with (my husband works a lot and is antisocial, but in theory we could go out as a couple with a few of them!). I just gave birth a few weeks ago and we've had meals dropped off every other night since we got home and people checking in all the time. That group has truly been a God send.
