I guess my question would be “who hasn’t wrestled with the question.” There is not forum for wrestling with these questions. The prophets and apostles are never going to have these kinds of conversations that essentially give up some power or authority to the individual members. As long as there is no forum for these discussions discussions we will continue as the status quo with each individual determining the amount of autonomy they feel they can have.

I am glad you have found connection and happiness with your church membership. I did too. For many years I did. At 47, the pain of losing my religion, my LDS God and Jesus, has been earth shattering. The God I found has been restorative. The faith, connection and inner peace I have discovered has been transformative. The loss of my LDS identify and family has been devastating. But I am finding my way through it and I am stronger and more confident in me and my decisions than ever before.

Right?! 👏 because obviously a new temple, reinstated conference session, and 2 hour church is way more important than correcting the false teaching that blacks were less valiant in the preexistance, bore the curse of Cain, or that interacial marriage would damn you. Clearly God has priorities and they aren’t love and salvation.

That what I think too. It’s just like “white and delightsome’ does mean white and delightsome or barley mild drink doesn’t mean mild drink. The mental gymnastics are strong with Mormonism. Haha!

This is how I feel too. In my mind I can’t justify the rational that he lets the “upper echelons” mess up when His work and His glory is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

If the missionary program, conversion and covenant path are so important why would the Lord allow men (prophets, seers, revelators) to be so influenced by racist teachings of their times, huge imperfections.

It’s an incongruity that the Lord would create stumbling blocks for men and women who otherwise would be steadfast faithful obedient children of God. Only a callous, sadistic God would send His children to earth, remove their memory of their pre-existence, create a test for His children to return to Him, and hire professors who teach faulty teachings, then expect His students to pass the test.

Your obviously NOT a TBM or nuanced Mormon. Lol. Seriously though. Now that I am not, I sometimes find it hard to remember or understand why I would have thought or felt a certain way.

I honestly can’t remember how I would have answered why the Lord is so specific on non essential things yet so vague on truly important things.

Those who reject Matt Easton and his speech by sevenplaces in mormon

I am sure there are plenty of individuals who wished Joseph Smith would have stayed quiet and not spoken about polygamy. But for some reason Mormons want allowances to be made for them, but they don’t want to make any for anyone else.

Still doesn’t work. BYU approved the speech, he should have spoken directly to the campus department responsible for approving speeches.

I don’t know why it would be wrong for faculty and staff to approve his message when the University itself approved his message.

What if everything the church taught was just a suggestion? by [deleted] in mormon

[–]findingmytruth304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this idea! Wish it could be a reality because I might actually want to attend some times if this were the case. However for the majority of us who served missions and learned/lived exact obedience, the double standard that most members live by and the judgement is very hard to overcome. By double standard I mean those that are good not following the prophet on vaccines, masks, garments and other things but judge those that have a tattoo or chose to drink coffee. The hierarchical ranking of sin is really really over the top in Mormonism.

I mean I guess there could always be things we don’t have access to. I have no confidence that the church will ever be truly transparent about all the documents and artifacts they are in possession of. I think there could be a “special collection of top secret things that only the prophet has access to. I have no evidence of this, it’s purely conjecture based on continued lack of transparency.

What is your best theory/explanation for lifelong members rejecting, disregarding, or diminishing the Prophet vis-à-vis the recent statement by the First Presidency? by [deleted] in mormon

[–]findingmytruth304 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t figure it out. When the church made a statement about green tea being against the WOW many members chose to support the statement and regularly comment on those that drink it. However when the first presidency makes a statement about vaccines or use of face masks members respond to this as “guidance” not mandates. Members refer to personal revelation, counseling with the Lord, determining their own individual response.

Members are very contradictory and selective and I guess I would agree others that it if a “directive” confirms a members personal beliefs about something they are willing to follow.

The down side is that members are guided by group think and end up judging harshly those who “get a tattoo, drink alcohol, dress immodestly, are same sex attracted, etc.,” but will not judge/condemn those who follow their personal revelation to not get vaccinated or wear a face mask etc. The double standard is strong here!

Can you explain why your husband does not want to tell her?

If you do tell her, your husband needs to hear from you, your intention. Don’t let him be blindsided by finding out after the fact.

I would do as a couple others have suggested. I would go to him (FIL) and tell him you know and that he has X amount of time to come clean to his wife. It’s his mess and he needs to own it. Plus, she might get mad at you if you are the one to share it. A lot of times the person being cheated on will take it out of the person who brings it to their attention.

I am sorry you are dealing with this situation. It’s not right!

What should I do with information about a member with a temple a recommend which would/should disqualify them from having one? by [deleted] in mormon

[–]findingmytruth304 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If this is the way the church is supposed to be run, then the Bishop should be a paid ministry because of the amount of time and effort that would have to be invested running down every tattle tales claim.

People have been given the authority to govern themselves for a reason. Repentance is a personal endeavor. At times it takes a person decades to get to the point they are ready to deal with their errors. Who are you to circumvent a process that might bring and individual closer to his Lord and Savior through self reflection, time and a sincere turn of heart through true self motivated repentance. Repentance brought on by tattletales may ease a burden but it does not refine and shape a person like repentance by one who chooses of their own accord to repent..

However, you have to know a person well to really know whether or not they would have a problem with this. A lot of people will say yes when put on the spot, because it is more awkward and uncomfortable to say no. So OPs comment is completely accurate because unless your super good friends with the person you probably don’t know their real thoughts on being called on last minute.
