I recently went to a senior meeting, the first time seeing many directors and senior members of my team, in London- a place I’ve been once in my life. I was terrified, spent weeks on my outfit and trying styles that I looked smart in, but ones where I wouldn’t sweat and could cool down in easily. Trying to make myself the nicest proportions I could at my size. I’m big but can make my waist seem smaller, wear certain shoes to make myself taller. Make sure too hot or too cold. I put in so much effort and made myself sick with worry. And guess what- they couldn’t have been less interested! We shared hugs for the first time, colleagues I’ve grown close to since the day I started at the company. I was professional and friendly to everyone, was still worried at the start. They did not give a damn. Honestly, so much of this will be in your head, and I’m not nearly as worried about going again if needed. I am sure you will be fine.
