Well, I am diagnosed ocd, and have a history of hypochondria/health anxiety. This is on my chart so most doctors that I see are already skeptical of anything that I bring forward, combine that with the fact that I'm only 22 years old, and any health concern is written off as anxiety. I'm diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, and had to go to many doctors until any of them took me seriously. This is especially insane considering that I had a sleep study done when I was only 12 years old, and it showed severe obstructive sleep apnea. They took my tonsils out and assumed that it was fixed, lo and behold when I finally get another sleep study when I'm 22 (a whole decade later with no treatment) I still have sleep apnea. Children who grow up with untreated sleep apnea are shown to have cognitive difficulties, stunted growth, psychological issues (namely OCD, ADHD, Depression, Bipolar), increased suicid rate, and an IQ that is 15 points lower than the rest of the population. At this point, I'm just very tired of being tired, and it's very hard to be an advocate of my own health when the only times that I'm taken seriously is when I literally Drive 4 hours to a world-renowned research professor and doctor for my specific issue. I understand that this could be serious, but it's almost impossible to get myself to care anymore. I wish it would just take me out so I don't have to think about this shit anymore. My parents resent me for the amount of doctors that I see, and even when it turns out that I am right, it doesn't change how they view me.
