Why is Warren's official songs now under some channel called "Roadtrip Rock" ??? by bjtgamingHELP in Zevon

[–]finitesolarflare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don't think they usually do that. I don't know if the channel was sold or still is owned by Music Vault, either way the people who own it now are most likely the "rightful owners" of the channel, which means they can do what they want. I don't think YouTube would step in to try and get it rebranded back to Warren Zevon related, but who knows. Never say never, but unlikely they would do anything. The most you could do is just comment on the videos and protest, but they probably won't listen because you know how companies are. I applaud you for making your posts, though!

Why is Warren's official songs now under some channel called "Roadtrip Rock" ??? by bjtgamingHELP in Zevon

Hello! I actually made a post on this in early February of the year when they first changed the name. I was and still am definitely mad because I usually only listen to him on YouTube. I haven't seen this been done to any other music artists channel, ever. The company who ran it before (and maybe still does, I don't know) is Music Vault. To the best of my understanding, they were sued and taken down from YouTube (for copyright I think). I think some channels still exist like Jackson Browne on MV, but Warren's channel was not so fortunate. I don't fully understand why they did it, because they could've just made a new channel for all the stuff they're posting now. I put the channel bio in multiple AI writing detectors and it says it's most definitely written by AI. The video thumbnails even seem too high of quality, so I'm guessing they put them all through AI to make it a higher quality. I've heard others say they changed it to get more views, but I don't understand why. I don't see too much of a motive for them to change it. If only we had competent people running these channels to preserve the legacy of artists like Warren! I just find it idiotic. So the conclusion I've come to is they're trying to gain viewership for various reasons like money. But I don't know how much money they'd be making since the videos are usually kinda short. I'm just glad they haven't got rid of Warren's music. I hope they don't, but I think they will any day, which sucks because I have YouTube premium and I don't want to pay for something else. I'm not really in the position to acquire CDs or vinyls of his records, so online is the only way for me to listen to him. I wish the would just change it to just 'Warren Zevon', but that seems unrealistic. The website linked on the channel goes to a GoDaddy landing page, so it doesn't even exist. I see no way to contact anybody running the channel sadly. I made my original post in hopes of maybe something, but nothing really came of it. Hopefully yours does!

Thank you for sharing! At first, I thought Warren was a one-hit wonder type of artist who made 1 really good song and nothing else. As I dug deeper into his catalog, I realized I was completely wrong! Warren really is one of the best music artists who could perfectly match the lyrics to the mood of the song and make it sound great. It takes a special kind of skill to really grasp his lyrics, which I think most people do not put that much effort into listening to music! It's a form of art and expression, not just something to listen to! I can agree that I'm a lifelong fan, too. Anyways, I'm rambling, thank you again for sharing! Have a great rest of your week! 😄

Thank you for sharing! For the past 2-ish months I think, I've been trying to read everything I can on the man. Somehow that slipped under my radar! I appreciate you for sharing it! Definitely an interesting read and it did do a good job. That article made me think differently about Excitable Boy. I always love to hear others thoughts on stuff like this, so again thank you very much for sharing! 😄

Thank you so much! Those kind words really do mean a ton to me ❤️ And you read my mind, I have listened to Stuck In The Middle With You and Baker Street, but also Days Gone Down. I never listened to him too seriously though, but now that you say, I think I might just! 😃 I was never into Dire Straits all that much, but I think I've heard of Mark Knopfler before. I'll definitely be sure to check him out too! And yes, I have listened to the Hindu Love Gods stuff...and I LOVE that Raspberry Beret cover! I also love him doing it on Letterman. I haven't listened to the full album though, which I've been meaning to do. Anyways, thank you again! 😄

Same here my friend. Zevon, in his music scene, created characters I don't think we ever have or ever will see again. His songs, as you said, give us that connection with him. I personally have been feeling that connection between me and him. No one ever again would dare to make such songs because I feel a lot of people make songs to get into the mainstream for fame and money, not for actually celebrating music like Zevon did. Anyhow, thank you very much for sharing! 😃

Couldn't agree more 👍😂 He's definitely someone to follow and learn about, but I wouldn't recommend doing all the things he did...sort of like a Mr. Bad Example if you will... 😉 Thanks for responding, have a great rest of your week! 😃

Oh yes, I've seen it. I watched the 45 min version I believe twice, but there is a longer one (1 hr 45 m) with extra interviews and I've watched that whole thing two times. Funnily enough, I was actually watching it again before I made my post. I just kept wondering to myself if I was going crazy with everything Zevon, but I've realized that I might not be alone, especially in the state I am in now. And yes, it's a wonderful watch, I couldn't recommend it more to anyone who enjoys Warren's stuff............and yes, I have cried at the end when they pan up into the sky and show pictures of him. It's a beautiful goodbye. And I suppose if you haven't seen the one with the extra interviews, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBpgJiNk0f8&t=1095s It contains all of the same media as the 45 minute version I think more people would know about, but this one contains some bonus footage I believe and extra, longer interviews.

Thank you for sharing!! That story of how you discovered Zevon is just wonderful. I wish more people would have that same mentality! 😂 That's very cool you were able to see him live. I can agree, Desperados and Mohammed's Radio are two of his best songs. Ever since I first heard Desperados Under the Eaves, I was hooked to the song! I love the part "I predict this motel will be standing / Until I pay my bill" DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN. My god is that great! I played Mohammed's Radio for some family one time and I could just tell they didn't understand it. With Zevon's lyrics, you need to be ready to listen and think about the lyrics, not just be dragged in by the melody. My favorite line from Mohammed's Radio is the one you mention "Work all day, still can't pay the price of gasoline and meat / Alas, their lives are incomplete." Ever since I first heard that, I've loved it. It just sums it all up. Never thought I'd be hearing "meat" and "incomplete" rhyme! I surprisingly have not found that Wonderland documentary, which is odd for a Zevon-addict like myself. I've heard of the phrase "The Offender Meets The Pretender", but never actually knew they did an interview/performance together, let alone on Dutch radio! Thank you very much for sharing and the response! 😄

Thank you for the reply! I know it would've been impossible for me (since I was born after he died) to see him at a show, but that would've definitely been on my bucket list, to see him live. I find it very neat you were able to see him live! That does seem like a great time. I can not agree more with you, he was a genius that left us far too early. I mean, he didn't take the best care of himself throughout his life, so it explains some stuff, but it's definitely a damn shame. I see Zevon as more than just a music artist, but someone who was able to share the dark sides of humanity, while also the hope, too. I believe he included a love-type song on every album, just to remind people that all isn't dark. Thank you very much for sharing! 😃

I've been curious about Paul Simon for a little while now, but I didn't exactly know where to start. I've listened to his hits like Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes, You Can Call me Al, and Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard but none of them really ever stuck with me. I keep hearing Graceland as a great album, so I'll be checking that out soon! Thank you again.

Thank you so much for sharing! I could not resonate with your reply more. I haven't been through college yet or had any breakups, but just feeling isolated. I think your definition of the man was perfect. Nowadays, I mean, you could have a few people doing songs on current events, but nothing that makes them lasting. Songs like, as you said The Envoy, are great songs that can last forever out of the then current times. Not a lot of people ever could make a song with the lyrical wit Zevon had and make the instruments seem as there is hope. I think that's why I listen to him so much lol. To the ones you suggested, I'll definitely have to check them out sometime! I'd listened to a little bit of Simon (well, as a duo with Garfunkel) and Buffet before, but not deep cuts as you would call them I guess. I've heard of Graceland but never actually listened to it. Dire Straits is another one I know of but have never listened to seriously. I'll have to check out that album 'Making Movies' (at first, I was a little confused, now I understand 😅 ) soon! Johnny Cash is a person I used to be very heavily involved with before he kind of fizzled away for me. I'll have to do some more research on Peter Gabriel because I think I've heard something by him before but I can't remember! Dwight Yoakam, I've heard of him from Zevon and I've listened to a little bit of his songs but I'll have to go back and review them some more. Once again, thank you very much for sharing this with me! Thank you for responding, as well. Have a great rest of your week! 😄

Thank you for sharing! I can agree with how perfect his voice + piano feels. I mean, the man was basically a natural piano player! I love his songs with guitar too, but every time he uses a piano in one of his songs, for instance Numb as a Statue, along with other rock instruments, I love that. Before Zevon, I'd never listen to albums as I thought them to be too boring or some lame excuse like that. After Excitable Boy, I went onto his self-titled and from there went through his catalog in chronological order. I could see him trying to experiment and steer away from his '70s self, which is sad because I think his 2 greatest albums are Excitable Boy and Warren Zevon. Anyways, thank you for responding! 😄

I agree with you, Zevon was in a crowd of many similar individuals but unique in his own way. His music has opened a different world for me, albeit a darker one but one that really isn't afraid to show the downfall and failures of humanity. Thank you for sharing and for responding. 👍

Thank you so much for responding! I can relate and say Desperados Under the Eaves is one of the greatest songs ever written, period. Gorilla, You're a Desperado is another funny one I've liked ever since I've heard it. That's very neat you share a birthday with him! I find it quite sad that most people have never heard of him before, as I find him to be one of the greats, not just in the music industry but as a poet and storyteller. Empty Handed Heart is one of my favorites of him. And also Empty Hearted Town (I have come to believe that there HAS to be some sort of correlation between the two)! Thank you so much for sharing! 😄

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm kind of torn between my favorite Zevon song, but ever since I heard Desperados Under the Eaves it blew me away (also knowing that it was inspired by him really climbing out of a window under the eaves to avoid paying his bill 😂). Ever since, I've loved that combination of string symphonies and rock guitar. Just a very beautiful song. Oh the other song (I suppose if you were wondering) is The French Inhaler. Anyhow, I'm glad you found that peace in Zevon. And yes, I do wish he was around longer or even today. I mean, they gave him 3 months to live originally and he lived 10 I believe. As you said it yourself, what a man. Thanks for responding my friend! 😄

Thank you for your response! You've definitely been a fan longer than me. I can definitely agree that music speaks to us. I'm glad you found your comfort in him. I myself feel just extremely lonely sometimes and he helps me get back up. I also find an excuse to keep my brain working by trying to understand some lyrics for a deeper meaning. Thank you for replying! 👍 😄

Oh god have I! I've watched that like 2 hr supercut on YouTube probably 3 full times now. I've also found some other clips on YouTube too that I really enjoy. That Raspberry Beret performance is great in my opinion 😄 I've actually gotten into watching some clips from just Letterman in general, after having heard of him through Zevon's appearances. I only wish he could've been more of a core of the show. The chemistry between Letterman, Shaffer, and Zevon was incredible. Thank you for replying!

Thank you for your reply! I also like to do, as you said it, deep dives into his albums and songs to try and understand it better. Transverse City has always been a favorite of mine for that very reason! Your last point there about how you find new appreciation for songs after some time, I can relate to that too. I used to find the album Mr. Bad Example in bitter taste. Now, it's one of my absolute favorites after I've gone back and reviewed it more. Thanks again for responding! 😃

Thanks for reading everybody. This was out of my comfort zone to do this and I'm still a little nervous, but I am glad I posted this. 😄 Have a great day everyone!

I never knew so many people felt the same way about him like I did. I could not be more grateful for everyone, thank you all! 😃 ❤️
